Will It Work On My Computer?
« on: February 24, 2005, 07:56:49 pm »
I dont know the forum etiquette around here as I just found out about this game so I hope this isn\'t concidered \"clogging\" up the forums. That being said..

My Computer Overview:
CPU: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
CPU speed: 1.25 GHz
Memory: 256mb DDR SDRAM
Graphics Card: 32mb VRAM
Resolution: 1024x768 @ 89 Hz

So I would appreciate a quick response as to whether or not my computer is special enough to handle this game ;)

(Tried the list of file editing to get the game to work posted by that magical dude but I must\'ve done something wrong because it didnt work)

-thanks!

I\'m running it on a PowerBook G4, but I have about 750M RAM.  You could try it once it\'s up again.

It runs pretty slow on my new iBook G4. Any suggestions on what things to tweak? What framerates do you get on the powerbook g4? The two are pretty comparable.

right now i have no access to a mac, but try to set the vertex buffer to OFF, and resolution to 800*600*16bit, and no sound. ?

And, whatever you do, do not load all maps.

I play PS on my iMac G3 600mhz with 640MB RAM works ok(5 to 60 fps depending where i am ). I use the 800x600 in 32bits. I think RAM makes a big difference.

I run a Titanium G4, 667 mhz, 512 ram, 10.2.8... I know, pretty old mac, but I\'m a poor student . My housemates and I have a 1mb ethernet, which I get 500 kb out of (probably the only reason it works)...

It works though; I get anywhere from 4 fps in Hydlaa Plaza to 50 out in the wild. Hydlaa plaza is always very choppy graphics for me however. What are other people tending to get in the actual plaza?

Oh well, just saving every penny for a new G5 dual 2.5 ghz power mac...=) yumm. (drool)

Pretty close to the same setup - 667MHz G4 TiBook, 768MB RAM, 16MB VRAM, OS 10.3.8, broadband connection. Run it on 640x480 windowed mode, framerates vary from 4ish in the Plaza up to 50ish in the wilderness.

Lots of settings can be toggled to help tweak it that little extra bit - though I\'ve yet to see if using Adaptive Distance really helps or not. Switching camera angle when in very complex/busy places (aka plaza) to overhead helps incredibly with framerates (minimum of ~20fps in the worst of places, very playable), but you can\'t see terribly far off.

It just might work, but it\'ll be slow and choppy, especially when you are in areas with many other players.

g3: should be fine, you have osx right?
512: yep, fine
8 mb vram: um, not sure, but it should help
400 mhz: this is where I am a bit iffed...Try it when the new mac client comes out, if you have a graphics card though it should be fine.
56k connection: shouldn\'t be a problem, many PC users have 56k and it works fine.

Yeah, it will be slow, but I would think it\'ll work...

400 mHz G3 = VERY low chance. I\'m running a 667 G4 and I often get below 1 fps in the plaza. I also (probably) have a newer video card and also my 1 GB of RAM. You\'ll probably be able to start the game and all, but actually playing (i.e., getting playable FPS) is very unlikely.

well. I think it\'ll work, but very low, you\'re right. i\'m planning to buy a dsl internet connexion, so it\'ll help.

but i\'m also trying to save and buy a newer comp.
thanks for the help.

There is barely any bandwidth usage of PS that I know of, so your DSL won\'t help one bit IMO.

I\'ve tried to run PS on a computer (alright, not a MAC, a PC) that had higher specs than yours (except RAM), and I wasn\'t even able to move in anything less than ten seconds per step.

Therefore, I would be extremely surprised if MACs were that much superior to give you any usable performance whatsoever.

That\'s funny.  I have a macs and pcs, it works fine on the macs (when the code us up to date) and it doesn\'t work with the pcs.

Go figure.

Seytra, a 500 Mhz Mac runs roughly the same speed (depends on usage) as a 1Ghz PC.

Everyone else, the biggest factor on FPS is probably your graphics card.  That\'s generally my limiting factor when playing games.  I use an 800 Mhz G4 iMac with 512MB RAM and whatever the standard graphics card was when it was bought.

The only time RAM got me, was trying to play UT2004.  I don\'t think any part of my computer was up to date.
