Shortcuts
« on: February 27, 2005, 08:00:25 am »
How does a Mac user set a shortcut?

I keep getting told \'right-click and blah blah blah\'.

But clicking, control-clicking, option-clicking, command-clicking, shift-clicking, double-clicking - none seem to do anything.

Is there another way to edit the shortcuts, or set specific ones to 1-0?

Yes, i love Mac. The Design, the comfort, the good performance..
But I just can\'t understand, WHY!! they \'re developing mouses with only one button and without a scroll-wheel. That remembers me at the time before second worldwar, when grandma and me where little boys!! :))
So, i suggest every macuser to buy a double-buttoned mouse with wheel, cause OS X supports that very well. U want miss that comfort. believe me *twink*

Except there\'s no such thing as a \'right click\'. On the Mac, a two button mouse sends \'left click\' with the main button, and \'control-click\' with the right button. A third button incorporates option-click. Unless you start hacking around.

To answer the original question, you can drag and hold down command + option or you can hit command + L. There are no \"Shortcuts\" on the Mac. They are called \"Aliases.\" (you can\'t set start up options in them, though...).

I don\'t think he\'s talking about file shortcuts/aliases, but rather in game command shortcuts, which I haven\'t played around with.  Is there any modifier combination that gives consistant right-mouse behaviour within crystalspace?  If there isn\'t, one needs to be set up.

There\'s no way to right-click in PS unless you have a two (or more) button mouse. They *claim* they\'re gonna fix this. We\'ll have to see. ;)

I added:
    /cast Summon Missile
    /loot
    /target_info

to the file \'PlaneShift 3D/data/options/shortcutcommands.xml\'

That gives me buttons to click, but clicking \'1\' doesn\'t execute shortcut1 for some reason. Nor does cmd-1, control-1, option-1, or shift 1. I didn\'t try all the permutations of two modifiers, it gets irritating.

So that that bug Mac-specific?
And is there a \'Loot with roll\' command I can replace \"/loot\" with btw?

My mouse have enought buttons then I can open de shortcut edition window. This windows it\'s a cheater one by itshelf. Any time than I place the cursor near the Name field and clic it fade away, once done this it reapear when I move the cursor under the half of the comands field and fade again when I move the cusor over half of the comands field.

Very upsetting bug.

And I don?t like to be messing inside .xml files to set the shorcuts.

Please, solve it.

I\'m not exactly sure what the problem is... Can you clarify a bit? Also, post your system specs, please.

Imac G5 20\" 1.8GHz 512 MB RAM Mac Os X 10.3.9

1) I press the Shortcut button
2) When I see the table of shortcuts I right clic on an empty shortcut
3) It open the window where to put the name and commands of the shortcut. It seem pretty solid and I have a cursor blinkking on the commands field, I can write the commands.
4) Then I put the pointer over the Name field and left clic on it.
5) The shortcut editting window becomes semitransparent with no cursor blinkking on the Name field
5) Once done this it reapear when I move the pointer on the lower half of the comands field and fade again when I move the pointer on the upper half of the comands field.
6) Clicing on the commands field do than the windows seem to be solid again.
7) Pressing the Done button close the window but not save the commands.

I seem to be a problem of focus of the cursor and a saving one, perhaps privileges, with the shortcuts file.

sounds very similar to a problem I had, fixed by moving short cut dialog box
so it did not overlap chat box window

shortcuts xml files

Okay, so I guess there is a problem with right click in CS.

Before I go in to change my shortcuts xml files, I would like to know how you get the next line.
In the game player\'s manual it says that you can set your shortcuts to do more than one action--you just have to start a new line. However, this is obviously for the in game user interface (which you can\'t get without a right-click). Therefore, I ask which symbol indicates a new line when we rewrite the xml; is it \">\" or \"<\"?

Also, will this automatically make the number buttons your shortcut, or do you have to put that in somewhere as well?

[Knowing these would greatly improve gameplay, as then I could play the game as it was meant to be played instead of having to click on windows, wait for them to open, click on another object, wait for it to activate--then die because the NPC I attacked has already been able to hit me 3 to 5 times (couple that with the attack bugs that keep you from being able to hit back until you stop attack, then reattack using the appropriate method).]

I\'ll essentially say the same thing I said above:  Two button mice work fine on a mac, and yes, right-click is right-click--not control-click (EDIT: at least on my powerbook G4 with OS 10.4.4 it works...sorry if you have an older mac and it doesn\'t work).  If I want full functionality mice in PS (well...you know what I mean), all I have to do is plug in a two-button mouse.  In contrast, the one-button mouse  ctrl-click just doesn\'t open some of the context-menus for whatever reason.

And...as far as Apple being dumb about the mice--Apple has come up with the \"mighty mouse\" which is the first official two-button mouse from Apple--let\'s hope it becomes standard in the future.  Two-button and scroll mice have worked on apples for a helluva long time, though, so it really is a moot issue.  People who use a single-button mouse do it by choice (out of custom more than anything else) and not by design anymore.  A cheap, functional two button mouse can be found on ebay for literally pennies plus shipping.  Check one out if this problem is driving you crazy.
