Night is really, em, dark
« on: February 28, 2005, 04:40:41 am »
I just updated and now nightime is really dark.  As in totally black.  Not even any stars  :)

I\'ve tried it on two different computers (NVidia FX 5200 on one and ATI 8500 on the other) same problem.  Basically when the sun sets it\'s too dark to move.  Even around flames or lights.

Is there some gama or brightness control somewhere?

no, but that is why i used the nvidia drivers to globally increase brightness and gamma, as I couldnt see in the sewers at all

Aren\'t night\'s supposed to be dark?;)
On a more serious note, it can be that your client has to calc the lights and that it will get lighter after some time.
And it also helps to increase brightnessglobal brightness settings with your driver utils.

Kronon is correct.  After a time the lights will come back on, but you are wrong in saying that it\'s after the sun goes down.  Everytime I reload Hydlaa Plaza I have to wait like 5 minutes to be able to see anything other than characters, both PCs and NPCs...

I asked a GM and he says it\'s a bug, night is just too dark.
Look at this: http://www.thomhurks.com/shot05.jpg
:)

Rallelalli, I don\'t think it has anything to do with rendering, after a while it becomes light again, because it\'s getting day!

Yes, if you wait for a few minutes to give it time to render you will be able to see again. Just be patient and give the devs some time to fix it.

Not that realistic. You must realize that most of the races in PlaneShift would almost certainly have some kind of enhanced vision or other senses. Probably because they eat more vegitables. :)

hehe, yeah that\'s a problem with the lighting. I think the CS devs are trying to make it work better :)

It\'s not a problem with night, the problem is that the plaza loads as complete darkness, then upon the change of hour in Planeshift time, not RL time, the game adjust the lighting to the new hour.

its a simple bug, as master just pointed out.

give the devs some time, they\'ll fix it.

i cant wait for the lighting to be fixed.  i dont like how the light flickers darker or lighter every 2 seconds.  it would be nice to see it gradually get lighter, in a smoother way.  get what im saying?

is it just me, or there isn?t any sunset...

isn\'t our world \"in a gigantic cave\" or something? isn\'t the light from the \"crystal\"? at least i think i read this somewhere...

i think there could be small variations in light, but to simmulate a sunset and night inside a cave just doesn\'t seem right :P  ;)

The crystal which lits up the cave gets its light from the sun on the outside world. So day/night cycles are perfectly reasonable.
