There is a new theme that you can try for this board.  Not totally finished but at least has different colours.

True, at least searching for usernames does not work at all, no matter whether I specify a regular search string or not.

It\'s not \"unread posting\", but \"new topic/replies since last visit\" :). When you stay on the forum for too long, your session on the server will expire and, with the next page that you open, the timestamp of your last login will be newer, showing a lot of threads that have posts you still haven\'t read as \"not new\".

Wrong.
Fear is their most important weapon.

Ooh it looks so much better. It\'s most likely just after seeing the same scheme for almost 2 years, but it just pops out so much more than the white background with blue hue does. Love the new colours, keep working hard dev team :P I\'m really interested in seeing what the new buttons shall look like.

Wow one really has to love this new theme...
it is so much better than the old boring one, this has more depth, and the old was really just way to plain ;)

It isn\'t so much the color scheme as it is the use of bold lines, poor use of whitespace, overuse of tables with visible borders (on this page alone, there are lines every half-inch or so)....everything about this version of Burning Board seems fragmented and choppy.  It simply isn\'t aethetically pleasing.

It serves its purpose, but it\'s just lacking in the layout department.
(and I know you\'re going to hate me for this, but even with the new color scheme, the text and background don\'t really contrast enough, making the text hard to read...) /me adjusts the gamma for her other monitor.

Other than the contrast of the bgfont, I like the new color scheme.  But it\'s still the same message board system and nothing short of migrating to new forum software will change that.

I guess I\'m just a phpBB whore...sorry.

It would be sad to see everything go, but the game will be reset at some point as well.  Perhaps it would make for a good trial run?  Just to see how everyone takes it and all.

Changing *this* forums is not going to happen anytime soon.  I would like others to set up their own set of forums though to try out features for any future changes we might make here.

I take that as a challenge ;)

My thinking is: such a talented group of coders and designers have developed this magnificent world full of interesting creatures, yet the forum is so...text-based MUD-ish.

I didn\'t intend to come across as harsh as I did in my initial post, I apologize.

:) Well, we\'ve signed up to work on the game not the forums.  I\'m all about improvement but have to realize that along with changes comes support.  I feel \'comfortable\' with the forum now and how it works.  It should be possible for fully customize the layout of this forum which I would feel better with.

If people have examples of \'better\' forums or layouts I would be interested in taking a look at them.

point well stated.. any forum can be improved.. correction, most of them can, but this one has all the features we need and the devs need to use their time on the game and not the forums.
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.   :P  Xantherus Icer  :P

Well, from web forums I found two that are worth attention:
- IPB which is paid.
- PHPBB which is for free but requires offten updates, heck, all of the web
forums require offten updates.

I am now testing also Fud Forum that comes with eGroupWare which
seems to be pretty neat, but I don\'t think so if you would find a converter
to this one.

Regards.

This forum software doesn\'t seem to have any exploits in it, or at least, nobody bothers to find any. Other more popular forum software needs updating loads because they are so exploitable. This means more work.
