Character movements. A wish.
« on: March 05, 2005, 07:44:44 pm »
Emotional movements, or a series of movements that reflect the mood of the character.

Say:
Clapping  (Works only if you have your hands free)
Bowing  (curtsy for the ladies)
Shrug  (With the sound of \"Huh?)
Angry  (leaning forward with fists clenched at sides With the \"Grr!\" growl like sound)
Hearty Laugh  (A belly grabbing laugh with head thrown back with the sound of laughter)
Chuckle  (Perhaps a facial smile, the sound of a chuckle)
Point  (Hand or sword extended allowing one to point in a direction)

Maybe you can buy other motions:

Dances  (different dances different prices)
Woo-Hoo  (when you ecstatic over something, perhaps a jump move of some sort?)
Present Arms  or Salute  (Here you would grab the hilt of your sword with both hands before you, sword pointed up)

It would be a side bar menu similar to the short cut menu but thinner (maybe even part of the short cut menu?), that one click produces the movement - perhaps key board short cuts for those who like the key board over the mouse.

Real pity you can\'t draw your sword in a smooth fashion, instead of arming \"Poof\" there\'s the sword.

I will assume that in a later version when armor and stuff like that comes out that we will wear our swords at our side, and wear bows and battle axes and stuff like that on our backs - it would be interesting to see if specific weaponry arming would have the correct movement when you arm, like with sword, reaching to your side and pulling out the sword.

As a side note, the graphics for the creatures are the best I have seen. The walking movement is fluid, believable. Watching the Gobbles their movement is believable, real. Of course Jump and strafing is kind of odd, but I assume that you all are working on that.

Just so long as the klyros version is disgustingly dignified.

A polite palm-tapping clap
A faint bowing, mostly of the head
A shrug of the wings
A faint narrowing of the eyes
An upturned-handed pointing gesture
A slow, tango-style dance
A slow, sarcastic, stuttered lifting of the arm for woo hoo.

Hm. Not all players are dignified, some would want to be grandiose and flamboyant, exaggerated to the extreme.

Forgive me, I would have no idea how to even begin to make these sort of things happen inside a computer, but perhaps it would be possible to give 3 levels to choice from. Dignified, Average and Flamboyant. I do not know if that would take up too many resources to offer that many choices

Perhaps when you are creating your character you can decide if you will be polite and dignified, average or flamboyant and work within the system provided?

buy other motions  I like to think I\'m smart enough to salute or cheer without training...

Dancing and such on the other hand...  Someone who is a good dancer could support themselves with their ability to dance well by being booked at Kada\'s or selling tickets to their performances in Ojaveda.  Dancing should require actual training.  Gaining theoretical knowledge and then practicing it with a PC master, or in the early days simply dancing in the plaza or Kada-el\'s.  I like that idea, even if mine don\'t make a whole lot of sense, or if I\'m rambling.

EDIT: Grammar and sentence structure

Hmmn, yes, dancing as a skill would be interesting... so would singing and instrument playing...

But I\'d hate to be the programmer who has to make up that much movement.

Actually I did search what I searched for specifically lead to me not seeing exactly what I was aiming for. \"movement\" is the word I used encountering 360 threads with the word movement in it. I\'m sorry librarian if I am a mud dobbing idiot because I do not know the countless other words to use to ask. ;)

Then I tried a subject Search (now 18 threads) we rendered with known bugs and issues, movement of camera, Racial movement rates, etc. etc. etc.

Being uncertain and not in the mood to click on each and every link available I just decided to post my post.

Besides which that very same day I was searching other things, like mining, gold Mining, \"You do not see a good place to dig\" and other variations on a theme because I am having an issue with fulfilling two quests (See this thread to understand )

In the end it is fine and dandy to run a search, in fact I have gotten a few answers to my questions; however that is not the rule, that is, unfortunately an exception to the rule. Might be because I read and write English, not this slang folk like to use and I definitely have no clue what the in game slang is for game stuff being a ?Newbie?.

Unlike others I do not post hastily, in fact I have spent several hours, long, hideous hours reading through grammatical errors, spelling errors and slang use of words on this forum to answer my own questions before posting. That should afford me the comfort of at least 10 repeat threads to start, more each time I have to wade through the material handed over in my never ending quest to get answers.

:P they must bring back the rapid spinning bug somehow. I mean, the spin dance (especially on tables) is rooted in Planeshift history forever. Although the newbs may think it looks buggy and/or out of place, I dissagree and feel it is a history some of us have enjoyed and wish to share with the rest of the community.

BRING BACK THE SPINNING!  X( (Please. And don\'t tell me \"soon\", cruel ones.)

Spinning works for me...

And \"movement\"? Well of course you didn\'t find anything useful with such a general word... RP character animations are usually called Emotes, or Emotions, but you could also search for Sit or Wave, etc.
