Server connections
« on: August 13, 2002, 10:45:40 pm »
Ok I have a couple questions in this post.  :(

1. When I login to planeshift, it intializes the characters, all that etc, and then it initializes the world. It stops and I wait for about 2 minutes. I have cable connection. It worked once, and I stayed on well, it looked fantastic.
What\'s up with this?

2. ALSO, many times it says \"server dropped for unknown reason\". This has been brought up many times, but no reasonable answers.

Can someone help me with these??  X(
If I\'m being a little unreasonable say so. :(
PLease answer.

It sometimes takes a long type for Crystal Space ( the graphics engine that we are using ) to load a large map since it is not optimized yet.  So when it says \"initializing world\" it\'s actually trying to load in the map.  Just leave it for a while and it should load.  It has nothing to do with your connection speed.

If this happens please exit the app totally and restart it. This may fix it but not totally sure.

When we made the Atomic Blue release public, we encountered *many* problems.  We worked for about a month to fix a lot of these, and made the \".004\" release which was actually the 2nd public release.

It so happened that on the particular day we released version .004, Crystal Space had a bug in it which had just been introduced the day before, and which was fixed the day after.  It had to do with OpenGL mode on certain graphics cards.

Unfortunately, by the time we figured out what the problem was, another week or two had gone by and we had already started our tasks for the next major release, Molecular Blue, so we couldn\'t go back and fix it any more.

That is why that bug hasn\'t been fixed and won\'t be fixed until Molecular Blue comes out.

Sorry about any inconvenience this may be causing.

Just an idea

Ok, I haven\'t been able to get Planeshift to continue beyond the loading map point without the server kicking me off.  I messed with a bunch of OpenGL stuff, but it still doesn\'t work.

So I took a look inside my Psclient.txt file.  I noticed a very peculiar line at the top of each attempt that says:
\"WARNING: could not load plugin \'crystalspace.motion.manager.default\' \"

Thinking \"that\'s odd,\" I went to see if I could find any relevance in the psclient.cfg file.  Sure enough, I found a section that reads:
\"; Motion manager-- must go HERE BEFORE level loader...
System.PlugIns.iMotionManager = crystalspace.motion.manager.default\"

Now, I may be going out on a limb here, but here\'s what I\'ve been able to piece together:
-My map is not loading
-According to psclient.cfg, the map can\'t load without the motion manager loaded
-According to psclient.txt, the motion manager was never loaded

I know I\'m not real keen on the whole coding scheme of this program, but if others could check thier files and see if they have a similar situation, then maybe the developers (we love you all!) could narrow down the source of this bug/feature.  I don\'t know if there is maybe some other line of text I could try inserting in the .cfg file that might help.

Again, thanks for your time!

Thank you for your help... Vengeance.
Thanks everyone.
I\'m sure it will work better with molecur blue.
Yes, you must wait for about 4 to 5 minutes on a
slow conection to get it--only in safe mode. IN opengl
it could take up to 20!  :(  but hey i got cable.  :D
----
can\'t wait till molecur blue
----
whats up with MOLECUR blue? I mean why\'s it \"blue\"?
Are there gonna be different colors for dif. servers or something?
Thanks for everyone\'s time.

I think you have a very good theory Xandria and am not doubting it in anyway, but I\'m curious why this would be a problem for some and not for others.

Hmmm, yes it is strange how some people have no problem, some have intermittent problems, and others can\'t get on at all.  My hope was that one of the developers had an idea, or could at least provide some insight on what the motion manager is (I was kinda curious, if someone has the answer).

Thanks for your feedback!

Ok, I know I seem stubborn, but I\'m sure that the motion manager is causing my problem.  Upon further investigation of my psclient.txt file, I found the statement:
\"loading \'motion.dll\' from LD_LIBRARY_PATH or equivalent gives:
lib\\motion.dll: file not found\"
I searched my entire computer for this \'motion.dll\' file, and it was no where to be found!  Could one of the devs please tell me if there is a way I can acquire this one file, place it in my folder, and see if it fixes my problem?
I\'m sorry if I sound desperate, but it\'s driving me crazy that I can\'t even get in to try the game!
