The wipe!
« on: March 09, 2005, 10:40:02 pm »
I hate this, they\'re going to wipe every character in the game clean, everything will be gone, thats stupid, all because of some stupid cheaters, well just delete their character, you don\'t need to wipe everyone just because of like 7 people, cmon use your heads, i mean im just about to get a glyph and this has to happen, what is wrong with that!?!?!?!?

The wipe is a GOOD thing.  Many players goat extra advantages or got characteres messed up at creation.  Too much has happened not to wipe.(remember we are only in BETA)

The evils of past repeat themselves in many shapes and forms

It seems to me it is impossible to track all the people who used the cheats. The wipe is the only way to make it fair for everyone.

i dont think you want to have to search in the sewers for rats to get extra cash, while other players sit around with 100000000k

But still...aren\'t you at all mad that your character that you worked so hard to get stuff for is now just gonna be gone, seriously your treating it like its nothing!

And plus for tracking people who use cheats, that is possible, you just need the right code tracking software, go through the coding of the game and see what code got messed up due to hackers and track their software to the email address, then ban them, its not that hard.

Personally, I don\'t care about the cheaters.  The world is more interesting if not all of us are poor and beleagured.  I mean, why should you care?  Once the economy gets moving, they will be spending it and creating a richer environmnent.  However, the wipe will apparently bring many new skills and spells.  For that, I am happily anticipating it.

I think the wipe is GOOD. GOOD. As long as they implement a few more things before it, such as magic (all the glyphs and lots more spells) and even the crafting.  About a week after that (mainly the magic :) ) I think they should do the wipe.
There are two types of people in this world: The Pinky and the Brain.
Which one are you?

Well good point actually, but how will the wipe possibly bring new stuff (well unless they\'re updating it right after the wipe) and plus I think its weird that they opened the game and there were all these bugs and glitches in it, they opened it too soon if you ask me, now people who have already started playing and are acustomed to it are gonna get deleted, to prevent this problem they should have tested it when they made the game and see what was wrong, and get good security for the game so it wouldn\'t be able to get hacked, make more money possibilities, and everything, seriously.

This is the testing phase.  You are now an official play-tester.  How does it feel?  Kinda nice, isn\'t it?  I like the badge they sent me, it makes me feel official.  Oh, and the hat.  In my hat, people think I\'m some kind of cop.

Look, I mean as little offence as possible, but you are an idiot.

The news of this wipe has been around for a very long time and it is totally necessary. It also isn\'t as big a deal as you are making out - this is a tech demo, not a game yet! Some of the bugs so far have given rise to unfairly powerful characters, which throw the balance of the game off.

You deserve special mention for this:

Are you high? Do you know how ridiculous this idea is? Aside from the length of time and wasted resources to implement it, do you have any idea how easy it is to bypass clientside anticheat in an open source game? I bet if they actually implement something like this, there will be a workaround made from the CVS before it\'s even released.

Calm down son, remember you are here to test the game and help find bugs. Your hard earned cash and stats are just numbers in a database that sorely needs wiping. Deal with it.

Your reasoning and knowledge of Planeshift astounds me. You do know this game is done by devs as a hobby, right? You know we all have been waiting for CB for years, right...? Too soon? Hell, I\'m amazed we didn\'t have to wait longer...

What the hell do you think this release is FOR?! Don\'t you realise that nearly all games pass through this stage? Internal testing > Closed testing > Open testing > More testing & tweaking > Next round of internal. Guess where this one is at, sunshine?

Holy hellmonkeys...

Well first of all, I thought we were here to PLAY THE GAME, and here your all calling me stupid, well what do you expect? Its a game, and if your just testing then theres really no point in playing at the moment, just wait until the real thing releases, but they are making all these updates and stuff to make it sound like its open, like \"crystal blue new release\" and all these updates and screenshots, thats really misleading

You have it wrong.

You are here to TEST THE GAME.

We are, at least.  Some people (most of us) enjoy influencing games.  People stand in line for it all the time.  When they had the WoW testing, it was an -event-.  Here, we get to do it with MUCH more force, because the devs aren\'t listening to marketers.

If you don\'t like being useful, you\'ve missed the point of beta testing entirely.
