New major release of nvidia drivers
« on: March 12, 2005, 12:02:50 am »
As announced on Nvidias website there are new builds of graphics drivers suitable for their geforce series cards:

Windows: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.84.html

Linux: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux.html

The linux release notes ( new builds for IA32 and AMD64 are available ) detail opengl improvements, improvements for working with the 2.6 kernel, NvAGP and udev improvements and more, so it looks like a nice thing for anyone running planeshift on nvidia hardware. With all the recent fixes in the planeshift cvs its definately time for a rebuild with the new drivers soon, has anyone taken the plunge yet? How well are things working for you?

Spiffy! I was using the \"testing\" ~x86 drivers in Gentoo for a while, when the 6xxx series drivers were still deemed too new for general use as a stable ebuild, yet the stable 4xxx series was broken and wouldnt work with the \"4k kernel stacks\" option in one of the more recent 2.6.x series kernels. Java really likes the 4k kernel stacks option, I\'m not sure why but more speed is always a good thing.

Maybe its time to head back to the uncharted waters of the ~x86 drivers once more..

Damn nVidia, how come they never update the Windows 2003 drivers  :(
Well, I didn\'t have what to loose, so I tried the new 2000/XP ones on Win2k3, and it seems they work better than the old ones :D
I have a plus of 260 points in 3DMark 2005 with the new ones  8)

PS - who has a video card that supports HDTV, I strongly recommand this drivers, they\'re way more superior than the old ones.
