Names of game regions
« on: March 15, 2005, 08:08:05 pm »
I know I saw this answered deep within a thread a few days ago, but any search string I use to find it provides little useful information.

What are the names of the various regions within the game? Right now, basically anything outside the plaza is \"the place where I can mine gold\" or something similarly descriptive in my head. I\'d love to know the actual names for the various regions that have to load when I get there.

This should be pretty easy. Let\'s see now...

Stalagtite with the 8 known levels - Yliakum.
Starting town - Hydlaa.
Second town (behind the hills) - Ojaveda.
The part of the town that\'s available in CB right now - Akkaio (there are a couple of other parts that\'re not released yet... Talk to the NPCs there for more information.)
Forest - .. Forest.
\"Place where you can mine gold\" - Magic shop.

Then of course there are the sewers, the temple dungeon (below the big red crab-looking house in Hydlaa), the tavern, and lots of small insignificant places.

And after that, we have the stone labyrinths (not released) that should be somewhere to the east of Hydlaa, unless I\'m mistaken (which I most likely am, as it can just as well be to the west... But east sounds good), and we have Pradesha, which is the abandoned Lemur home town, somewhere far below Yliakum in a huge cave down there, and... Well... Yeah. But for now, just worry about the stuff that\'s inside Yliakum.

Well, AFAIK hydlaa is quite close to the edge on the east side, so if you\'re up for some free fall, take Grono\'s suggestion :)

Who comes up with these names? They\'re not exactly easy to pronouce, and thus not very easy to remember either.
A random name generator may be useful here...

Isn\'t the path from the forest to Ojaveda called Konreid\'s Pass or something like that? I got the name from asking the Ojaveda NPCs.

I actually haven\'t made my way into Ojaveda yet... I guess I could go and find that out!

That\'s why you sit there and click them for 5 mins until you see one you like, or can modify into one you do. :p

Seriously though, I dislike the names for the reasons stated above.

I\'ve never heard any complaints about the names not being possible to pronounce. Maybe you\'re just the one who\'s ended up with a disfunctional tongue? :)

Well interesting topic alright.

One thing I would like of the world developers is to provide a list of commonly known towns and places for each level with their general locations, particular the races home towns. Basic I only know of Hydlaa and Ojaveda. Which direction is Akkaio the new town that has been added recently?

I playing a Klyros, yet I know extremely little about the Klyros home lands and towns to be able to use in my character\'s background and conversations with others.

I\'m most likely wrong in pronounciation, but I\'ll give it a shot. :P

Yliakum. (Yuh Lack Uhm)
Hydlaa.  (High Duh Luh)
Ojaveda. (Oh juh vay duh)
Akkaio  (Ah kay oh)
Forest   (Fore ehst)
Magic shop. (Magic Shop :D)

I believe Akkaio is the only explorable part of Ojaveda.  I\'ve only gotten there once because the geometry of the road is totally screwed up for me, and a rogue followed me into a shop and killed me before I could turn around and target him to defend myself.  Sigh.

Another place not mentioned but already visited by many : The Death Realm.

I think I already posted about the Dsars (sectors) of Ojaveda.
most of the shops of Ojaveda have a sign with the name.

In Hydlaa, shops are refered by the name of the owner. Jayose\'s for the Library, Kada-El\'s for the tavern. From almost any part of the city you can see a huge grey tower with no windows obviously named windowless tower.

And there is more to come maybe not in this release but that are part of the world, the temple of Talad, the other sectors of Ojaveda, other levels of Yliakum with other cities like Poricet on the third...

Why so many strange names? because the stuff next to the gizmo up blue thingy could either refer to a spot on the nose of a kran than to any place somewhere.

OOC: Open an Atlas, look at the names of the cities. Most had meanings in the local tongues, changed over history. Not all are easy to pronounce if you don\'t live there, some are said one way, writen another...That\'s how names are.

Note to all the travellers:
If you travel to feel like at home, stay at home. If you start a journey to discover a new world, talk to the inhabitants, explore. it\'s the unknown in front of us that makes Yliakum so interresting to explore.
If you like travels agency with maps and planned excusions, I don\'t think Yliakum is for you.

Gronomist: Do you count Kada-El\'s among the \"small insignificant places\" ;)
