Greedy Players
« on: March 16, 2005, 07:30:01 pm »
I just started playing today and already have had a negitive experience with this program. I spent 3hrs stuck behind ladders, on roofs, or in the place you die. Then i finally got some help to go kill some rats and the two people that took me there had gear and weapons and they were greedy and didnt let me loot my own kills. This is what i dont like about the way MMORPG are going these days, i remember back to a time when people would gladly help out another newbie and share the wealth and guide new players to help them get a feel for the game. But now from the three hours plus that i have put into this i dont feel like helping build this game as much as i intended to if the community was friendly. When i was having troubles i came to this newbie forum to find advice on what to do and there are mostly tech issues in here. I saw that there was a tech forum and for the life of me i dont understand why they keep posting in here. IMO you should at least start newbies off with something to help them along a little bit. I will try again another time and i hope  that it will be better.

If you are new here try to explore, complete quests (you are talking with a
NPC here like with normal person on \"local\" chat, you just have to target
him/her first), buy yourself a pickaxe, learn mining and then fight.

This is exactly why I do not team until I am at a higher \"level\" then I team with newbies and allow them the loot of all the kills - mine and theirs. Of course teaming or \"leveling\" others carries with it its own payback in other games, thus I am not really losing out.

It becomes a choice of teaming for EXP and PP or going solo for cash and loot. If you need the exp and PP I suggest teaming and let them have all the loot if they need it so bad. But I would strongly urge you to keep a list of names of those who are greedy and those who are not ? that way you know who you want to work with in future.

I think that the present problem is mostly due to the lack of rats (Perhaps we are over hunting?) and the fact that other critters rarely if ever have anything to loot. I have gotten two 3 tria loots off of many gobbles, nothing off the rouges. Other than the great progression points and lots of EXP one gets from gobbles and rouges, they are ?worthless? for making money. Once more drops are created and more of an economy is presented that allows higher ?level? players to get more money off of things that newbies can?t kill, they will pretty much find the rat pelt to be a big waste of space and not worth the effort to carry.

Yeah, there are a lot of greedy players out there... but there are also some really helpful players.  Just last night, I\'d been killing rats on my own for quite some time... I would\'ve grouped if anyone else had stopped by and asked.  But instead, this other guy came in and \"stole\" my rats by running in and attacking so I couldn\'t have any part of it.  Very rude.  And I told him so.  He didn\'t have a response.

But also last night, another player who\'s been quite helpful to me met me in the sewers to hunt for the hard-to-find robust rat to see if I was strong enough to kill it without getting killed.  (I was!)  And then when he had to go, he gave me his loot because he didn\'t feel like going back to the surface to sell it.

Like in life, you meet all kinds.

I\'m happy to help out newbies.

But i do not like the noobs. When you help em out they follow you around every where asking (May i have more!) all the time!. Man them kind of noobs really make me not feel like helping people out!

I must\'ve been a rare noob indeed.  I found someone who was willing to help me, lent me money to get some training, and was surprised when I insisted on paying him back.

Karistina, that makes you a \"newbie\", not a \"noob\". There\'s a difference- newbies are good people, willing to learn, not greedy, and appreciative of the help they receive. Noobs take as much as they can, use the absolute minimum politeness as possible, and are interested only in becoming the \'leetest\' player in the game.

Thanks for clarifying.  8)  Though my forum title suggests otherwise, I no longer consider myself a newbie in the game anymore.  There\'s still plenty I don\'t know, but I finally know enough to help other players. Wahoo!
