Effort for nothing
« on: March 18, 2005, 03:10:53 pm »
todavia i was training my enki character when an idea cross my mind , All the time that im spending geting money and progerssion points  is usefull?
i ask and advisor and he answered me that when the next release is ready all the characters that are in crystal blue are going to be deleted , this is beacaue of cheaters that uses bugs to theyr own proffits , and then i ask myself , And what happens to the honest players that enjoys planeshift playing it correctly ?  all the time that i have spent in the game? , in a few months all our characters , items , trias and whatever we have get in this beautiful game will  disapear for ever.

I want this post to be readed by the developers of the game , and think that who is going to be interested in their game if in a year or some months . their characters will be deleted.

Sorry me if the grammar and the ortography isnt completely correct , but im not a native english speaker and im only 14 years old.

Greetings from Madrid

For honest people like us, we are getting good experience at playing the game properly. We will know how to succeed without cheating.  The cheaters will be lost trying to figure out how to begin after the character purge.  We\'ll know what to do and we\'ll be better off in the long run.

I\'m looking forward to the character wipe because I only started recently, and everyone seems so much stronger than me.  But I got where I am through hard work.  And I know I can do it again.

Don\'t forget that this is not a finished game. This is an alpha test. You are not playing a game. You are testing a game. During test phase we occasionally have to do big changes and stuff. We do try to minimize this however. So we will try to make sure that we need only one big wipe. However we cannot avoid it. There were some very extreme bugs in the past with people getting huge amounts of money or PP\'s and we have no way of knowing if the money or PP\'s that everyone have now are there normally or because of bugs. We have now solved those bugs so it is almost time to do the wipe (almost).

Greetings,
Project Manager of Crystal Space, CEL, CrystalBlend and Crystal Core. Please support Crystal Space with a donation.

Ditto, it\'s so hard to RP a powerful mage when I can\'t back myself up with real skill. When the db wipe comes I can play with heart.

Its not so much those who \"cheated\" as those who benefitted from bugs.  I fought a bugged rogue early on when using spells resulted in 1000s of PPs once he finally died.  Well, it wasn\'t cheating since I didn\'t know he was bugged when I started the attack.  I was in need of levelling my ways so I never sought out a cheat, I just benefitted from a bug.  Now I have over 4000 PPs but not many tria to spend it on anyway.  Perhaps karma is ingame afterall.   ;)  ;)

As for the wipe, it will be a benefit for some and a detriment for others.  There\'s no getting around that.  But in the end, it will be fair to all.  I just use this time to try different things so I will have a better idea of what I want to do after the restart.

I\'m not sure if I\'m happy about the wipe or not.The time i\'ve spend working on my char and getting where i am in the game would be lost. There are a lot of skills not implemented yet i\'d like to try b4 i lose the chance to try them due to being poor again. Then again i was reading up on my chart again earlier to discover there\'s going to be a lot of double dmg being implemented against me.I\'m a Ynnwn doesnt look good for me in the future.I liked the char but it seems my dream of being a blacksmith making weapons armor etc will be out the window i\'m going to be allergic to the metals i need to use lol.Ah well maybe the wipes a good thing maybe not.It\'s out of my hands anyway so why worry :)

Somewhat of a tangent... but will more races be available after the wipe? I wanted to be a more humanoid, less feline female character, but the model hadn\'t been created yet.  It would be awesome to get the race of my choice when I next start over.

wipe is a wipe is a wipe....
it just is. You can\'t be happy or sad about it for it\'s inevitable and as such you should embrace it and find your peace with in it

Its been made quite clear from the start about the forthcoming wipe, And anyone ingame for more than three hours will probably overhear a conversation about it.

Maybe it\'s not clear for everyone. Or maybe it\'s not clear for me.
Everyone heard rumors about it. \"The Great Wipe shall come to clean your powkets and your head.\"
Since the news, about a wipe to come, was posted early after the releasing of CB, many are thinking that it will come soon.
But I am not sure everyone catches *why* the great wipe will come. I am not sure either. Here is what I understood.

What we call CB, Crystal Blue, is the alpha release of Planeshift. Not the beta as some other rumors are letting people think.
If we go back in time, what happened. We were in the pre-alpha tech demo, called MB, Molecular Blue. In the meantime the team was working on the alpha using new technologies avaliable - a hard task to restart from 0-.
The story of CB:
-Devs are testing alone, the alpha testing.
-Devs are opening a server for few selected testers, the closed beta.
-Christmas 2004, everyone can test CB, the open beta testing.
=>this is where we are.
 - new features added, bugs discovered, cured
 - cheats and exploits performed, patched
 - changing the balance between spells, weapons, monsters, prices, armors, crafting, quests... to give everyone the same chances.
So what will we have after that? a lot of people with too much money, experience, training, because they expoited or were granted unfair advantages or simply used an advantaged way (by choice or luck). Once cured...it\'s time to end the \'open beta test\' and release the alpha.
** Here comes the wipe **
The alpha release, CB beeing done, the team can work on the beta release, codename SB(Something Blue) while players are in CB.

Now, consider how early in the development cycle of CB we are.
Optimists are saying that the wipe will come in a few months.
Everyone who lived in MB since the first planned release date in october 2003 heard this before \"in 2 months\" then the world famous \"Soon\".

Why wouldn\'t the wipe come before the end of development? because each new feature can have a bug giving an unbalanced advantage to its users.
Doing a wipe after each bug cured/formula updated would make our lives repetitive. Only major database breakdown would make it necessary to wipe. So far only a few rollbacks were enough (2/9/5).

Why was everyone warned about the wipe so early?
Imagine what will happen when, after months of trainings practicing, all will be wiped. We will hear a lot of cries...And it will be possible to tell them \"you were warned.\"

So don\'t worry, all what we do today won\'t be in vain. We can look for bugs to help the cure to come faster (use petitions), we can experiment, take some risks, learn how we will have to live...
There is one thing that will not be wiped: the friends we will meet before the wipe.

So unless I am totally wrong, people should not complain about changing spawns, new/gone/moved trainers, training for nothing.

CB will be updated to SB in steps, not at all like MB to CB.

This has been said quite a few times

I dont mind of the stronger players, because they can give you advice and stuff, of course it would be nice to be one of them, but shouldnt you play that game to get the best and thats way i dislike this erasing so much.. I wouldnt care if they got 400 trias for cheating, because everyone could get them by playing the game, but if your characters are erased what good are you supposed to get by playing the game, isnt it easier for cheaters to start the cheating for clean board? so they can be very much better than the honest players? (It might be hard to understand some of the sentences, sorry about that :) )
