lag..
« on: March 18, 2005, 04:31:23 pm »
Is there any way to make the game less laggy for me? I\'m using cable and it takes me 2 minutes to take 5 steps... it\'s incredibly laggy and impossible to play.. and also when i go into options and try to change stuff it crashes

ok in every thread you have made you mention you have cable.. just because you do you shouldnt expect for everything to go fast, the lag may be from your computer hardware, spyware/adware clogging up your resources... or just plain not good enough hardware...

i suggest you dont too much emphasis on cable internet for the speed you recieve... as there are many other factors...
I am just a figment of you imagination and a byproduct of the worse accident ever... ... or so my mommy says!

Planeshift uses very little bandwith, so that\'s no the problem. Planeshift does use pretty much RAM, so you could put some more in your computer. But still, the lag you\'re experiencing is pretty extreme. You could try downloading and installing the latest drivers for your videocard, if you have the wrong drivers/they\'re messed up/standard drivers/outdated, then Planeshift is very likely to lag. A friend of mine had it too, took him ages to make one step. Downloaded and installed the latest NVidia drivers and everything worked fine again.
Try it, and good luck!

By the way, you say you think you fixed, then what did you do? And if PS won\'t load now, then how do you know it\'s fixed?

And isn\'t VRAM just some kind of swap file? A kind of RAM but then on your hard drive? Well, if he has 32 gigabyte left, that shouldn\'t be a problem.

I am fairly sure the minimum ram one needs is 512mb, as well as the other aspects people have said.

yes this is a key problem, if you were to read the players guide you would see 512meg is minimum required.  Yes it is possible to play with only 256meg, But lag does become a Major issue, no matter if you have 56k or a t1 service.

I use to cop a lot of lag in Molecular Blue when running 256mb DDR Ram and a GeForce 2 64mb on my 1.6ghz and then when Cyrstal Blue came out, I could only get about 0.5FPS.

I upgraded to 512mb RAM and it made no difference, then I bought a GeForce FX 5200 128mb AGP Card and it works perfect.

My Advice, get a 128MB Graphics card (Only $80 Australian for a FX 5200) and upgrade to 512MB RAM (Only $80-100 Australian)

EDIT: I run a 56k modem on a crap connection of anywhere between 28.8k and 46.6k speeds. No Lag :D

Are they ever going to make planeshift so it can run on any comp. So you dont have to have stuff that haze JUST come out this year?

So are they going to get rid of the REALLy bad lag some time? Maybe in steel blue?

I would like to know. If the lag will stay for ever pls tell me now so i can leave this game and go ells where. But if the lag will get fixed pls tell me so i can stay and wait till it gose.

Thank you for your help.

Actually at my workstation, I have 128 mb card and 256 mb RAM and it
goes pretty well, so I think a good way to increase performance is also
graphic card, if it is good even at 256 mb of RAM you may have a good
performance. I was incredibly laggy at my other PC with 512 megs of RAM
but only 32 MB card, but after I\'ve put my 128 mb card there it is now
running very nicely.
