Forum respect
« on: March 19, 2005, 10:58:58 pm »
I believe a good feature would be forum respect.  I saw how it works on other forums.  You can look at wc3campaigns.com  Although there they have a lot of advertising schemes and bunch of forum gold you can have.

Anyway respect could be distributed for anything by other forum members. For example, somebody does a request for the game, for a forum member, can get respect by those who requested it and anyone else for that matter.

There are people who help in Technical forums and all they can get is thanx, but respect could be given as well.  Respect would be in terms of points.  People who do model requests, skins, drawings, stories, tech help, write guides or even those who propose GOOD wishes in wish list forum could get respect points from other members.  Respect points could give forum members options to change title, Actually have an avatar if a lot of respect is distrubuted and any other cool things.  This could be good for those who actually participate in this forum.  I\'m not one of those mostly, that\'s why I speak out, knowing that I don\'t sound selfish for any personal gain.

Think about it

Good idea; for example, I know Xythe has drawn a lot of people\'s characters in the fan art area, I am not sure what he gets out of it other than many thanks and complements, but I think it\'s a system that could be beneficial to the game. It will have to be up to the devs, gms and moderators though, possibly implemented and governed the same way the advisors in-game are.

Just my thoughts,

Those requests and features are really a staple of recreational forumboards. These forums, even though there is a hydlaa for conversation, these forums are for help about planeshift. A nice concept, but highly unneeded

aswell as the mass flow of people wanted \'respect\' thus handing in 1 minute thought projects overflowing the system and making a nasty mess on the floor.
respect doesnt seem much at the moment ^^

Respect was implemented at the creation of the board, you just can\'t see it.  ;)
The key to manipulative bargaining is to ask for something twice as big as what you want, then smile and nod when you are talked down to your original wish. You are still young, my apprentice, and have much to learn in the ways of the force. -UtM

respect rides alongside Recognition, to have respect you have to be recognised, and for that, you must have done something great or stand out from everyone else.
little or no respect is given to the lesser known people, for example someone new to the boards, their opinion is commonly disregarded for idiocy and in some cases is, just the way it is im afraid

I proposed respect points as POINTS not as recongnition, in fact they are addition to simple recognition.  Not only you are loved for helping etc.  you also get to do cool things with given options.  avatar, name color, some additional thing who knows.

but the majority rules, only one liked the idea while rest are against it

It\'s quicker, easier, and fairer to let the admins control those rewards, like they always have done.

I\'m an admin for Project Rockstar, and we award star points to helpful forum users. It\'s supposed to be a gauge for who to trust, but the more star points people get, the more they let it go to their heads and start acting more inconsiderate.  Very counterproductive!  I definitely don\'t think it would be a good idea to institute something like that here.

What if you and your friend keep sending respect points to each other?

Why do people need to get some sort of prize for being a good person? Isn\'t getting people\'s real respect and friendship enough anymore? Are we all just a bunch of stupid materialists now, who want and want and want? Ask yourselves that.

The way it works on other forums is that you have to spread respect for others before you can give respect point to the same person twice.  And you can\'t give respect point in short period of time.

But yeah, I can agree that this forum is not for such things since it\'s official forum.

however you all wrong that respect doesn\'t work, it\'s actually pretty useful thing and gets people involved. It\'s nothing about becoming stuckup or inconsiderate, it\'s giving fun opportunities for a dull forum.  Nothing more.  Maybe I used bad choise of word (respect) but that\'s what it\'s called elsewhere.
By the way, respect can be taken away as well...

All that happens is that you have your name, under it a a star(respect) and it says \"this person is respected community member\" or \"this person is on the way to be respected\" or \"this person is hated by everyone\" or \"this person is essential to the forum community\"
stuff like that. More respect, more stars.

No grono is not right.  She presented an opinion and some people think like her.  I can relate, I like her statement, but don\'t agree.  Why?  Well if no prizes were given out in anything, then what\'s the point of playing Planeshift, what\'s the point of playing any game, What\'s the point of living?  Why do people get strong in Planeshift?  Isn\'t that a prize.  Why do people search for swords and better, every time better items.  To stand out right?  Why do we live our lives trying to get more money.  Even though we only need a sufficient amount of money (not much) to survive, we want materialistic things and that includes travel and going places like restaurants and places like disney land..
Materials is not just clothes, it\'s not just points.  Friendship is one thing, and very valuable thing at that, but I proposed something that will make you stand out, just like in a game of Planeshift!

Look, I\'m not pushing for this, I can care less, I just suggested it.  I just saw only one good reason for not implementing this, and that\'s the fact that this forum already has a respect system (1) and this is official forum and used for official matters and not fan based forum (2)  All other arguments fail

play planeshift for enjoyment, entertainment and make friends,
play other games for the same reason
live because you were given life.

enjoy it while its here, you wont get a second chance... life that is
