I'd like to wield a carrot...
« on: March 20, 2005, 05:10:45 am »

So, in Planeshift, you can wield obvious objects, like swords, shields, etc. Good stuff. However, it\'s all a little skewed in favor of the old \"huntin\', killin\' crowd\".
It would be great if you could wield non-obvious objects.

Specifically, I\'d love to be able to wield carrots. Yes, CARROTS  :0)

(I have my own reasons for wanting to wield carrots which I\'ll keep to myself for now. :0P
Stay tuned. Tee, hee.

That\'s wonderfull and all, but you really want to have developers spend 4 hours or more just so you can wield a couple of exotic odd items to shake around and make jokes about? If you feel you want this, code it yourself or ask someone who knows how to code if they are a close friend and feel they are up to the task. But honestly, I don\'t see why you should fill the wishlist with odd and unneeded tasks like this one, when they could be working on much more important additions such as new game areas and mechanics. Not flaming you or anything, just keep in mind that someone has to code this.

I\'d love to see pretty much any holdable item weildable also. This will add much originality to the game, and depth to RP.

Actually we can do this very easily.  Any item in the game can potentially be held and have combat data associated with it.  For example:

I want a magic carrot, called \"rabbits revenge\", +1 magic bonus, gives better vision range at daytime, +3 bonus against shepard dogs...
Everyone should make their own MMORPG

No magic carrots with combat characteristics for me, please! :0)

My infatuation with carrots is specific, but the underlying request is general. This has nothing to do with silliness, and everything to do with roleplay.
Moogie is thinking in the same vien as me -- being able to hold any object (not just weapons) makes for a more richly-textured roleplay experience.

If I may elaborate:
I can appreciate the place that \"monster whacking\" has in an RPG of PlaneShift\'s ilk. I\'ve been known to kill the odd Trefusang myself.
However, \"monster whacking\" gets boring (to me, anyways), and I know that the future PlaneShift will be so much more than that.
There\'s not many \"I want to be professional killer\" responses in the \"what job will you have?\" thread:
http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=7626&boardid=13&styleid=3

As such, bakers will need to wield loaves of bread, jewelers will need to wield ore and gems, panhandlers will need to wield shopping carts, :0P etc.

For example, occasionally the pub is occupied by friendly mug-wielding barkeeps. It\'s real-feeling non-combat moments like that that make an MMORPG world interesting, and makes me keep logging into PlaneShift for more.

I\'m all for it.  Just don\'t get silly with it and make joke items unrealistically powerful.

It WOULD be nice actually being able to smack someone upside the head with a fan for talking out of turn, even though it would be barely noticable..
