Sorry I really don\'t know what you\'re talking about - you were in the Tavern  last night killing people  ;( and yes I take exception to that. Outside, well you can kill all you want to but isn\'t the Tavern supposed to be a safe haven? And yes things like this make good news stories so yes I might write the full story and include the chat log but on the other hand i might not, you\'ll just have to wait and see!!  :P

However, the insistance on maintaining this as the only distribution channel did very much to put me off.

This I don\'t understand. From a technical perspective, a website would be equivalently suited for this purpose because you can track visitors to individual pages just as easily as with the mailing list, just differently, i.e., you wouldn\'t count individuals, but number of hits. Both have the same meaning as they are strongly related.
Not only that, in fact, because you can additionally track how often one visitor re-reads a certain page, or even article, giving much finer granularity.

Furthermore, for the website, it\'s more easy to get people to \"just check it out\", this way you would also attract people who are lazy and people who are, like myself, notoriously paranoid, making it actually preferrable to a mailing list from a social perspective.

It\'s entirely up to you 1/ Receive the copies as they are published through email or 2/ Read the back-copies online as they become available.

This scheme looks, as has been said, very much like how a corporation works, and I am strongly opposed to it. There is no need to do it this way unless you are planning to eventually charge money, and be it only ingame money. And if you are indeed planning to do that, I see it as, at best, questionable ethics that you aren\'t telling anyone from the beginning.

It is my hope that you are just having fun doing things \"like the professionals do\", but I still think you should reconsider.

I think this is JUST like a real news paper! EVERY THING IS FAKE! UNREAL! You say bold things with out any proof. If those games are so bad show us a guy you made in them games that are an lvl 40 or 50? Some thing to show us that you REALY tried the games out. Not just looked at them for about 1min.

I\'m shocked that PlaneShift would support such a thing!

All they say is bold UN true stuff!
Now I don\'t find untrue RANTS funny. KEY WORD -RANTS-!

And i know you will say if you do not like it don\'t read it. Witch i will NOT.

I dont really see how this bears any resemblance to a corporation at all.. are there shareholders and stock floats, staff working for them, do they pay dividends, do they have a board of directors to who the CEO and their staff are accountable, etc ? I dont see money changing hands here, where does the profit motive that drives corporations come into play?

You have the choice to read this or not, subscription is at no cost. If you are worried about spam or viruses being sent to you, then subscribe with an email address that is not your primary one, and learn to use spamassassin, mozilla mail/thunderbird bayesian filters, and so on.

Internet Mailing lists are not exactly a new, untested, and dangerous thing either, they have been around for decades.

errrr has money out of the game or in-game ever been mentioned?  I think not - so therefore I think that you are verging on the side of paranoid.  But that\'s your choice.

The above post is another reason to use a webpage rather than email. ;) People will always get it, regardless of their spam filters.

Plus it\'s so primitive to use email. You could do *so* much more with a site.

Ok Moogie you\'ve won me over  :P  I will be stting up a web site to put the issues up but please could no one put it up on there site - I want this done properly.

The subsciprion based email will be avalable as before, for this who would prefer to \'have ther own copies\'.  Issue one will go up as soon as I\'ve build a site.

Now is every resonably happy  :D (apart  from Soulless_Body) as I don\'t think any thing could make him happy

You might want to read and understand what people write.

If it\'s really as good as it is, you simply keep the first issue up for three weeks for people to stare in awe at.  Maybe longer as historical record.

As you can clearly see from this and my comment, the resemblance is not in terms of structure, but in terms of how marketing is done by restricting distribution. This is a major fad with corporations these days, as you might have noticed (Fan sites being taken down due to IP warfare and so on), and the request to take down the independantly hosted copy neatly fits in with that new kind of IP \"management\" that corporations love so much.

I think I have made clear, in the first sentence of my post, that this either are things that I have already taken appropriate action towards, or that they have been cleared up already.

I know this perfectly well. I have a few, very select mailing lists that I am suscribed to, and I also have been active on Usenet. I know a bit about the net.

Yes, I am paranoid, and not just in this respect. :)
Money has not been mentioned, and I did not say otherwise. It\'s simply the striking resemblance of corporate marketing strategies that made me think of ulterior motives. I apologise for I\'ve obviously been wrong.
