Newbie's Guide to MMORPG's
« on: August 20, 2002, 11:57:50 pm »
So, you are new to the world of MMORPG\'s? You aren\'t quite sure what to expect? Well, I\'ll go over what one is and what\'s expected of you.

An MMORPG is a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. The name pretty much says it all, it\'s a role playing game played by people all over online. You assume the role of a character and you then must play it out. You can give your character personality by the way you talk, interact, have fun with it. You explore, meet new people (both player characters [PC\'s] and non-player characters [NPC\'s; or the computer], and join a guild. A guild is a group of people with a common interest, perhaps just to have fun, maybe to achieve large ammounts of wealth or maybe to you are a guild who focuses on trade skills. Try to find a guild that suits you and don\'t necessarily join because you want to be in a guild.

In a MMORPG (ex. EverQuest, DAoC) the goal is to meet new people and to have fun. You can customize your character to your liking. Say you like making things, then maybe you want to be a blacksmith, or perhaps a weaponsmith. Maybe you like to farm, well, then be a farmer. It\'s important to try to build a good reputation amoungst your peers in the game and you may find getting things you need much easier.

I hope you all enjoyed my little guide and maybe answers some of your questions on what exactly a MMORPG is. Thank you -Tomaseth

You got it all wrong. The goal of a MMORPG is to Cheat, \"Hack\"(not really hacking, falls under the being Lame Catergory\"), and be generally lame.

Cheaters and hackers will be dealt with, and protected against, by the Planeshift team.

Lamers will have to be dealt with by the other players.

What if you could do some kind of \"recording\" so you could record lamers and stuff,
Although Demo files are \"fixable\" arent they? So people could like fake them? Because that would just be plain bad.

I\'m sure hope there\'s a no-tolerance policy on using cheat methods in PlaneShift.

---
I have macroers that work on every prograM.
if they macro fight, i macro fight, then I kill them.
even thogh i cheat in the end, it kills the cheaters and they understand who\'s boss.
then i just make knew character and macro up 2 the level I was at before i macroed before, then stop macroing. simple!
lol  :D

Does anyone know if there is an \"ignore\" feature in this forum software?

unfortunatly on the internet you dont have the wonder of voice inflection so that you can tell the expression the person is going for... sometimes you can get it, but not in a straightforward 5 word message.  So dont get snappy at people for not having your superior sense of humor. Also as far as hacking and cheating...PlaneShift is a project that the creators probably take to heart, as they dedicate hours of their time to this for free. As such they wouldnt be too happy about people trying to ruin the world they have created for the masses, i can guarantee you that there will be persistant measures taken to prevent cheaters from continuing cheating. And as stated before, lamers will be dealt with by the common folk  ;)

Just use a  :D  or a  8)  or a  :]  or a  ;)  or a    or a  :))  or a :P after every line. it works for me (most of the times :D)
<Worf> These are the moments when my ego gets put back on the ground. I use linux for quite some time, and am soon 2 years maintainer of a linux distribution. I started to think I would be good at it. But then I tried to get planeshift running.
