My my Draklar, that\'s what I call cynism.  :) Luckily it\'s not that bad most of the time.

Ohh and Remvak, don?t draw conclusions that fast. If you find the tavern empty three times in a row, I could easily be just bad luck. Like Zan said, it\'s often quite crowded in there.

Oh well I just said what I would consider RP doesn\'t mean everyone will follow up on those kind of things, perhaps they should be redirected to a chat channel on IRC if they are just talking about real world stuff such as cell phones etc...

I would love to see the pub a tad larger, seemed too small to shove a few Kran into. I would like to see a best of the best Karioki night at the pub. Or a weekend buffet, or Sunday brunch.

When I went exploring I did poke my nose in, but there wasn\'t even a barkeep, there was that cook guy, but he didn\'t even have a watered down Ale or wine.

Oh well, many more players will come over time, RP isn\'t dead as long as this game has a pulse...which I believe it does.

I find that all games/tests have a cycle they tend to follow, the world gets busy during the spring and summer, and people actually go outside a bit, kids go to college or come home from college, and people go on vacations, and there is either a lull or glut around Christmas (really depends upon the game). Either way, over my almost 6 years in EQ, and other games...I never really lost friends for good, they went away, and came back. I was more than ready to welcome them back.

I am sure once the finals are all done (high school and college), and the graduations are over that many people will return. Have faith.

-----------------------------------

I so agree with you, the pub is a good place to RP, but far  from the only place. It is possible to RP on the road exploring with a friend, at the Blacksmith, on the way to train a skill, on the way to mine. That is one reason I suggested all the game improvements that I did, they would pull those on the fense about RP into  the RP side of the game, and it wouldn\'t hurt those that could RP if their characters were stick figures wearing paper sacks, sitting in a cardboard box.

I try to RP in say and shout...if I can, and keep the OOC in tells...if I can. That way the only person getting the illusion of immersion/fantasy is the person that asked the question (which when you don\'t know how to move or do basic stuff, the illusion isn\'t there for you yet anyway).

I agree, if you are looking for RP friends and the pub is empty, announce the arrival of a new barkeep with rare  and exotic libations (drinks) and culinary skills as well. And then race to the pub and watch people come. Some might not realize that the food and drink are imaginary...but they can learn (like kids teaching each other how to eat \"ice cream\" when they couldn\'t get one that day. I could taste it...how about you?)

Advertising works IN game...just like out of game, and it can be done in a role play fashion. What would you say if you just opened up a new pub in a bustling town...to pull in the obviously thirsty people (well they are gathered around a fountain aren\'t they??)

Some people would sit all day in a tavern as RP because perhaps that is their characters safe zone a place they feel most comfortable at...there is no limit to where you can RP considering this world was built for just that :P No one also has the right to tell you what RP is and isn\'t because it varies to each persons imagination.

If you want some more attention within the pub announce things aloud recruit people to join you there for whatever you wish to do, stage events.

I think there is less emphasis on the plaza now than before. The darkness bug back in the days of yore meant that you pretty much had to sit tight and wait for things to brighten whenever you spawed in the hydlaa city area, due to death, logging in, /spawning, or whatever. What else are you going to do to kill the time except chat with the dozens of people in the same predicament as you?

Beer has such a nice way of lubricating the innards too, getting a great many things flowing freely, conversation being one of them.. the tavern is a natural place for it..  a refuge, a bastion against the harsh, brutal and non-alcoholic world that is terribly deprived of tasty essentials like rat stew and fermented trepor bile.

The vast majority of intruiging-oh-damn-I-cant- log-off-because-I-want-to-see- what-comes-of-this encounters happen in the tavern, its a far richer and more diverse world with it, and its all spontaneous and unique stuff.

I think its perfectly IC for dwarves, drunken or not ( seriously, has anyone ever seen a dwarf in a state of sobriety? I dont believe they exist ) to clamber around on rooftops. Short-man syndrome you know, they have to go prove themselves by doing things that the other races arent quite nuttty enough to indulge in. Theres that sense of overconfidence that comes from being in a permanently inhebriated state too.

Moogie, I double posted because I thought that the one post would be too long, or confusing.

Tharizdun yes I did see a sobering dwarf once, it was sad and horrible.

Lol, yes...I am a dwarf....just one that happens to be very tall and red :D. I don\'t care about it that much, i\'m simply pointing out that it is one of the focal points of roleplaying and so when I never see anyone in there I got worried.

Try looking around for roleplayers other than the tavern. I found a nice guy in odjava I rp\'ed with for like 10 mins.  Just keep your eyes open and stay out of the sewers ;) The hydlaa plaza has a few running around most of the time too.
Its kinda sad that in PLANESHIFT we actually have to look for roleplayers. I would expect this from runescape of somthing.

EDIT: O M F G Post # 1000!!! I didnt even think I was at 900 yet... I need to stop coming here :P
Well, I think this deserves a party :) Ill give more info on it later :)

In the Molecular Blue times people used to gather in the Temple and chat there, the tavern was almost empty...
As Zan said when I\'m there it\'s full and usually full of Role Players...

peopel standing on the walls in the plaza might not be standing, the might be sitting soing this, i know i do sometimes. and certainnly when sitting is implemented.... if.....you\'ll find me doing this on roofs and other high places

Exactly, sometimes I do the same... just sit somewhere where it\'s kinda dificult to reach and whatch and see people asking \"How the hell you got there?\"...

Perhaps if the \'Help\' panel was more of a chat-room format instead of an \'ask a helper\' format (I didn\'t want to trouble someone by putting forward a help request for my silly little questions) or if a new OOC \'room\' could be made to keep that sort of speech there, then it wouldn\'t interfere with IC chat.

mmm... it might help, in Anarchy Online there\'s a system like that, I always get flooded by it... and there are some other stuff, if it was a channel everyone could say something and there would be things like:

P1 - What\'s the big red building?
P2 - It\'s the Laanx Iron Temple
P3 - No it\'s not the temple it\'s Talad\'s!
P4 - It\' not a Temple it\'s a church!
P3 - Speaking in churches, I don\'t go to one in ages!
P4 - Neither do I...
P1 - er.. so what\'s it?
(blah blah blah, you can see where is this going to be)

So, I don\'t think it would be very usefull, they would flood people, newbs wouldn\'t get proper answer and it would generate a chat...

Barkeep Needed
« Reply #24 on: April 14, 2005, 12:58:36 am »
A bar keep would definitely be cool.  One that walks back an forth behind the bar would be even better.  That way even if no player was in the tavern, it would feel more inviting by having some movement and life going on.  Maybe, the developers could even get the bar keep to toss some bottles around when he\'s making drinks :-), just like the movie cocktails!  That\'d be really cool.

Oh, and I wouldn\'t mind a good looking waitress either ;-)

One last, thing what is a bar without, beer mugs, shot glasses, and spilled beer.  If I remember right the bar top looks mighty empty.  Penderin calls for another pitcher while he waits for the barkeep to find those beer mugs he\'s misplaced.

The day devs put NPC barkeep to Kada-El\'s, will be the day when they\'ll start hearing me whining about it even more than I whine about dermorian model

Lol, dude I doubt you will ever see shot glasses in a medievil pub, that\'ll be the day you see f-16 fighter jets fighting over air superiority over the city.

Nice idea about more npc\'s in the pub though

Heh, mostly when I go to the pub it\'s empty. Once I did go and there was someone pretending to be barkeep and talking to this other guy. But I didn\'t have anything to say so I just stood there and pretended to drink.

The Tavern is usaully full, it just matters when you come into it, but lately it has been more empty then ever.
