Cus Google Is Teh S uck
« on: April 09, 2005, 02:46:11 pm »
[/ obscure [adult swim] reference]

But seriously.. i have spent 6 hours of fruitless search using metacrawler (yeah i said google but metacrawler uses google for a good 60% of its searching so :/ ) to find a variety of things and have come up with scant little.. and if i see one more \"recommended link\" or \"sponsoured link\" that has absolutly nothing to do with what im searching for (ok it has the same words in it but thats where the similarity ends) im gonna scream XD

What other ways of finding info are there other then these blasted search engines?

(guess my info finding skillz arent so leet after all ;( havent failed me until today)

If you are having trouble with a search engin it is usually one of two problems.
A: the engin sucks (not google)
B: your search paramaters/criteria are wrong.

You will get better search results by using the proper search codes. symbols like \" \' ? + / - () [] and words like with, without, plus, or...the list goes on. Google used to have a help area that you could look at to learn what all the symbols and paramater functions did.
I\'ll find a link and edit it in.

Edited: that was easy enough only took a few seconds.
http://www.google.com/help/basics.html
It may help.
Also,

I have not put much research into the pages though so, be careful what you click on while browsing...as all good surfers should be.
:) Later

Ok what Mudbu is saying (i think) is that sometimes what seems like the \"obvious\" search terms arent (just like common sense is rarely that.. *common*) it usualy needs to match what the site with the info says and if the site has improper sytax or slightly misspelled it then the search engine wont pull it up... sometimes you just gotta throw a huge bunch of things out there (like i did ;( )

I\'m searching from underground construction, tunneling, tunneling safety, tools and techniques, other tips and tricks etc. (all of this is a DIY/how-to perspective.. what? i like to dig.. once it gets in your bones it never leaves  )

I\'v found a little on underground construction but only two SMALL articles on tunneling Ive found a TON on the general topic.. but im not doing a sixth grade report ON tunnels i\'m actualy trying to MAKE them (and need the info to keep from killing myself :P ) Its when i try to find the DIY stuff that i come up empty handed :/

Yeah i already knew all that stuff cept the - thingie seems kinda obvious now.. maybe once i try it with the - i might find some more, thanks :D

Also i use mozilla and always check to see where a link is linked to before clicking ;) (faithful browsing of totse.com and its forum will do that to ya)

There really is no \'best\' search engine, it mostly comes down to what you generally search for. The main reason IMO that google is used by most people is because it is a small webpage and searches take less than a second, and this would have been a life saver back in the old days of 24k :P
I personally prefer search engines like dogpile.com and metacrawler.com but thats because I generally dont search for one type of thing.

EDIT: Ok it turns out I read the first post wrong (again) so my post is slightly off topic.

Oh, that\'s what this is all about? I could have helped you with that. I\'ve got some tunnels of my own; hanging lanterns and all. Growing trees can be kind of hard, unless you use reflective \"sun tubes\" or have the tunnels at a very shallow depth so you can just punch a hole to the light...but that kind of kills my enthusiasm. Compleetly underground or not at all in my thinking.
For larger rooms you need to do some structural calculations though. Especially if you are working in lime or sand.
I doubt you will have much ease finding much \"DIY\" style information on the internet though: since each kind of soil and bedrock take different aproaches to be made fully stable...caveins while diging is the biggets pain you will have to deal with. Also the average underground temperature in your area plays a role in getting the plants to grow. My area allows me to place my potted plants into the ground and let them hibernate even though they are not Hardy in my area but also keeps me from making anything like a permanent dwelling.
I would need to do some serious digging to get to a comfortable living depth.
Personally, I dream of a series of tree houses much like those in MYST\'s Channelwood age.
Much luck, I\'ll post any links I find that will help you DIY your way into it.

Yup it is :P i love digging.. but i have been pretty naive and fearless(careless XD) about the whole buisness. However once you\'ve had a cavein of any size once you IN a tunnel.. it scars you forever; I mean i would consider myself just about fearless except for Extreme Height and Now the prospect of a full blown cave in (i like breathing air... not dirt thank you very much  )

I also wanna KINDA mix the open elements with the deep ones Have lots of deep underground tunnels but with an open plazaa or garden pop up unexpectantly

VISUAL AID: its a  blatant ripoff of forestiere.. why re-invent the wheel? (behold my amazing artistic ability!)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v251/neckromaester/crappy.bmp

Basicaly The dome keeps the thing from collapsing (think 3d arch) The little \"funnel\" helps airflow (rushes hot air *red lines* and forces cool air *blue lines* in its place.. same way a furnace smokestack is built! just heat instead of smoke and cool air instead of fresh burnable oxygen
Also the tree acts as a \"roof\" and filters the incoming air (its basicaly being \"fed\" all the co2 that comes in and converts it to oxygen.. so there will be plenty of air down there)
And where i intend to dig there aint nothing but clay 1-50 feet deep ;( it holds well but is a bitch on the clothes and the back

I too love treehouses.. but much prefer underground caverns (damn why is everything made into a elf V. dwarf conflict?! :] )

Thanks i\'ll need it knowing me :/

EDIT: and what the hell is peanut?! o.O
EDIT2:wont let me [img] the link... says my post is incomplete and i dont feel like screwing with it XD

Well one can always learn the ways of searching at http://www.searchlores.org

The methods are immense and hardly limited to just search engines.  With this tool in one\'s hands nothing on the web can remain hidden :D
Lurking in that space between -             \The\____
