In order to test a bug...PLEASE read if you kill rats alot
« on: April 10, 2005, 05:56:50 am »
Moogie...first this is NOT a MORE RATS SPAWN post...so please leave it be...thanks

This is a notice to all rat hunters. I am seeking out rat related bugs, and since their numbers are low, and I HATE being rude, I am going to do this bug hunting WITHOUT killing rats...whenever I can.

If you see either Ferra silverpawe (enki), or Bacare Aucre(kran) standing near the rat spawn you have been hunting at....PLEASE do not feel like I am there to take your rat spawn. I will try to remember to speak with you and state my intentions, but in case I forget...that is what this post it for.

I will be watching for dropped loot bugs, spawns that \"fall through the world\" run into a wall or JUMP up to the ceiling (had it happen once...ONLY once so far..but...if it happened once...could do it again) etc, dead rats that fail to decompose LONG after looted, but do decompose if you don\'t loot them.

My goal is to find which rats spawns seem to have which bugs more often and EXACTLY where this happens. SO...after you finish your killing/looting I MIGHT step into the exact location of a bugged rat corpse to grab the /pos for a report. I might run to a spot in the geography where a saw your rat POOF and grab a /pos for report. I might do alot of things that could EASILY be misinterpreted if I did NOT post this.

I SWARE to you that my intentions from now until the foreseeable future at rat spawns that are ALREADY occupied is to go IMMEDIATELY into rat bug report mode. I have NO intentions to steal a spawn, I am NO threat.

Thank you for reading, enjoy your forum reading/testing in game.

Errr why? I think the devs already have that information, and could obtain it quite quickly without your help. The bug will be fixed momentarily. Just be patient, and stop making everyone give you the shifty eyes by hanging around their \"l3wt\".

Hmm odd, if they know all there is to know about this bug...why didn\'t they remove/debug it? *scratches head*

I assume when I see a known bug still in game, that the devs are lacking some tiny key bit of info that they need to fix things. I also assume on this project that devs are not paid, and therefore have a \"day job\", and that due to this...they need bug catchers help.
I take pride in my bug squashing skills, to me it is a puzzle with several solvers, all finding pieces and helping find where they fit.

And I worried about my \"l3wt\" *runs and washes mouth out with Lava brand soap*(Ptoooy YACK *vomits*) until I realized that you can not loot anyone elses kills for a period of time that extends up to despawn.

Once I realized this and still wanted to share loot that I did not need (rats eyes for instance), I would loot and drop those items, and if I saw someone near that might need it I told them that was why I was doing it. Just  being kind like that made one player that was hunting for cash behave very nicely, even stop trying to take all the rats that spawned. And since they started being nicer, I told them when I was going to leave (and actually altered my time line down a bit more fairly, although I did not tell them this part) and let them \"have\" the spawn. It defused a NASTY ugly scene, just  because I was conciderate, and they reciprocated.

And if this bug is as old as it is (judging by the dates on the first rat bugs in offical bug report site) then how \"momentarily\" could it be?  A bug that is located and ALL the info gathered but still remains in game for months qualifies as \"going to be fixed\" momentarily?

Is the patching process that  difficult? I doubt it, I give the devs more credit than that.  To me the devs don\'t seem stupid, ignorant, lazy, incapable or unmotivated in anyway. But if I were to believe that they had all this info for months and months and did not use the info to patch the bug...well I just can\'t buy that. That would harm the game, and I happen to believe that the devs realy really don\'t want that to happen.

Busy perhaps? Readying the next version? Working on more important bugs that crash clients? New content? Lives? I don\'t know, regular people stuff I would think.

This isn\'t too important of a bug. This is a pre-alpha tech demo. It doesn\'t matter if you can\'t kill 3 more rats in the course of a night, or get x tria. They don\'t care. There are lot\'s more important things to worry about.

they are magical rats, if you kill them with their last breath they will throw their eye or skin at you, or try to fly away. ;)

My favorite Rat bug is the rare invisible pop. I just love wondering why the Rat hasn\'t popped and then noticing my HP mysteriously going down, and you can\'t target anything because there is nothing to target! Solution? Log off and back on. Magic Invisible Rat appears!  LOL

Less rare but funner because it breaks the monotony of kill rat, read website, pop!, kill rat, rinse, repeat, is the occasional rat that pops, runs by you down the stairs I stand on to run into the bars at the bottom and then teleports back up the stairs behind you when you chase it down. Gotta do the spin and attack again on that one! :)

When I get really bored I drag a Rogue down and beat his HP
down from behind after trapping it against the Stairs leading up. I can usually beat him down in 3 or 4 rounds of backstabbing. Altho usually I keep him stashed there to play Roguetag with the rude noobs that come along and try to steal MY rats without asking...

uh..Of course I don\'t actually DO any of these things.. I  just SAW somebody doing them.. yeah, that\'s the ticket...

Time to mine the ratskins! lol

Well the bugs I have noted are as follows:
Water and rats is NOT a good thing, they either get to hit you, but you can\'t hit them, or you can hit them and they can\'t hit you. Neither one is good.  If you drop loot like the eyes, which I don\'t know many that bother with them, too heavy, not worth enough for the weight, the loot can get bugged where you can\'t pick it up.

It would seem that geometry is not a rats strongest subject either, they get caught, fall through the world, fly up through the ceiling (one saw one of those, just before a server LD), or pop through a wall.

Pathing seems to be a nightmare too. If you hit something, pathing routine should be interupted, but in four or five out of ten, the pathing continues.

Their placement is absymal as well. Mobs that a hunter of rats should not be expected to kill surround some of them. AND other players can use this to force a lower level player that SHOULD be on the rats away.

Yes, I had another player come in where I was hunting (the bowels of the sewers, too twenty minutes to get there, with all the getting lost, running in circles and all) and then he gathered up all the gobbles and dumped them on me. Everytime I got them off me, he would pull two, kill one.

Patience and resignation are the only things I\'ve found that work on picking up loot. Make a Clear Target button. If clicking on the loot doesn\'t work, try clearing your target from focus and then targeting it again. Sometimes this works better than just repeat clicks. I collect the eyeballs to for newbies until I can\'t add more rathides due to weight limits, then I just drop the stack of em and leave the rest on the rats. But yes, I\'ve seen many eyeballs get stuck on non-flat surfaces, steps, in walls, etc.

Pathing is a problem they\'ll be working on for awhile, if other mmorpgs are any indication. Even the P2P ones deal  with pathing problems everytime they change the least little thing, from my experience. Try this on run away mobs; make an Attack 2 button. I use the J key for my Clear Target, the K key for my Next NPC and the L key for my Attack 2 button. That\'s Bloody attack. You can make it any attack your comfortable with. The next time you have a run away or wild path mob, try targeting it and attacking with your keys. Then stand still. If you successfully targeted and attacked, you\'ll see the damage messages in chat even if it looks like the mob is running wild and out of range. If that doesn\'t work try keeping up with the mob the best you can. I kill 9 out of 10 \"magically teleporting\" rats with this method. (grin) As for people actually using other mobs to steal a spawn, it\'s not that effective a technique. That\'s why I joked about it. PLer\'s try that all the time. The thing to remember is that no one has the advantage. If someone pulls a mob towards you just wait until they get to you and then back up. Keep them between the pulled mob and you. They pulled it so the mob will go to them first. Patience is the key. Most people that actually try to use this technique don\'t have very much of it. If you have created Next NPC and Attack 2 keys, try standing right where the mob spawns facing the direction it heads in right after popping. The second it pops hit your Next NPC and Attack 2 keys in rapid succession.  Patience is the key.  All this is moot as soon as the wipe happens, so keep in mind that all PL\'ing at this point is silly. Don\'t know why I\'m doing it. LOL.

Based on my latest experiences it seems they\'ve fixed the bug where if you put your mode on defensive, youre invincible....at least i hope they did
