Cfg and XML (tweaks to 3.009)
« on: April 19, 2005, 05:41:32 am »
Well, it\'s been a while since I first got this thing working.  I remember having to change xmlread to tinyxml in some file...

It seems worthwhile to collect knowledge again.  So, I get the \"wrong XML parser\" error and I don\'t remember how to fix it, and can\'t find it.  Also, perhaps Cha0s should re-post his updater, if DFryer thinks that would be helpful.

Glad to be back, friends.  I\'ll return to annoying you all at my earliest convenience.

You get this using the latest COMPLETE .dmg?  This should not be a problem at all... if it is, it might be finding some sort of lingering badness left on your system :)

The updater currently does not have tested stuff on the server, only the whole download will work.

Yes, here is the exact error.  I removed the entire ps application.  The only thing I remember touching outside of the ps folder was the dylib10.cal, but this seems independent of that.

thanks for your time.  YOu know we appreciate it.

I\'ve got no problems. I\'m currently killing a rogue in the sewers?

Ok, I have someone on IRC who has reported the same error, so you\'re not *entirely* alone.  I\'m looking into it.

You don\'t have anything like a self-built version of Crystal Space drifting around, do you?  I\'m walking through a couple possible scenarios, but not sure what is going on.  Is this starting from the command line or the GUI?

Thanks,
Daniel

When I start from the command line, it gives me the error.  If I use the icon, it just fails.

At one point, I did try building CS but to no avail.  It\'s hard to say in BSD, but I think I removed most of the files.  Is there something in particular I should look for?

So your installation procedure should be this:
Open up the latest .dmg and accept the agreement
Drag the Planeshift 3D folder to somewhere like the desktop
Open folder and double-click psclient

If it fails, and you want to see the failure message, check
/Applications/Utilities/Console.app, which has text output from GUI applications.  One other thing to check for -
On the command line, what does echo $CRYSTAL get you?

For me, I didn\'t touched to the sw folder, nor the lib.
If you moved/trashed them, it may not work (I didn\'t try).

dfryer: I have the same problem. Open the game, get back the exact same error. It\'s also interesting to note that both buddha and I had the \"segmentation fault\" issues as well.
echo $CRYSTAL returns a blank line, btw.

P.S. I run a bash shell.
P.P.S. I do have another version of CrystalSpace sitting around my compy. I\'ll trash it and see how it goes.
P.P.P.S. Trashed CS and restarted... no luck.

This problem is caused by bad .csplugin or .csbundle files sitting around.. are you sure you didn\'t \"jam install\" crystalspace at some time? Check out /usr/local/lib for crystalspace (and all the other /usr/local folders). If this fails, do a search for .csplugin files - the only ones should be in psclient.app and updater.app.

Thanks,
Daniel

At one point, I did jam install ps.  Now, I don\'t know how to correct that.  I cannot find any .csplugin on my system, but there is probably a soft link somewhere I can\'t find.  Any suggestions?

Thanks dfryer. You were right again. usr/local/crystalspace got trashed and then everything worked. Thank you!

buddha: trash all external crystalspace files (like I did above).
