How to earn money w/o killing rats
« on: April 20, 2005, 02:00:47 pm »
Hello all!
I\'m not really a noob to MMORPG and I did PS some year ago but I still have a very basic question:

Is there a good way of earning money when not killing large heaps of rats? Because this is boring even for a fresh made character...

I played my char for about 3 hours and I\'m sitting on 8 or 9 PP and roughly 60 Trias... I I don\'t want to kill rats anymore...

Gooble: No loot. I once killed a gooble and looted incredible riches - 3 trias. But that was one of the about 10 I killed...

Rouges: I killed 3 or 4, no loot.

Clackers: I killed two, no loot.

Big, ugly, spiky thing in arena: I tried to kill one but the client crashed when I had it down to 5% health...

So please: Is there a monster with proper loot that is not a rat that can\'t harm me?

Regards,
Mad Crimson

Actually I\'ve found that mining really isn\'t that lucrative for me.

Gold ore sells for 6 trias.
Rat pelts sell for 6 trias.

With a strength of 59 I can carry 87 lbs. worth of goods. This breaks down to 40 rat pelts and 40 eyes, or 80 rat pelts, or 12 gold ore. It seems, for me at least, to be much more efficient to kill rats then to mine.

For mining to be a viable alternative to killing rats they need to: A) Reduce the weight of the various ores, or b)Increase the return for selling said ores, or C) Decrease the value of rat pelts, which in my opinion shouldn\'t sell for as much as gold ore anyway.  :P

Add to the gold ore issue that the mage guy didn\'t buy the ore, which means you have to walk to town or exploit the /spawn (which I don\'t do other than to get out of death realm, since on my system it is almost pitch black, more like shades of black).

I have pretty much decided to beta another game and let the devs move at their speed. They don\'t need my help, I won\'t go so far to say they don\'t want it, but I would say new testers are not warmly welcomed.

Thank you for the replies.

To Mondo: I searched the forums first but didn\'t find a thread that got me useful answers. Mainly because most people use helpful topics like: \"I have a question\"...
So please try to be less 3l33t and more helpful.

MC.

How to make money?
add MANY more PLACES for monsters to spawn
All rats camped?
More monster spawn points
general game play // money

Mondo\'s heart was in the right place.  I\'m sure he did not mean his reply as a personal attack.  It just gets a little tiring seeing the exact same topics come up over and over again in the forums.

Monsters are just in the game to pass the time and test the combat system, much like the Crystals were there to pass the time in Molecular Blue.  It\'s fun to fight them, sure, but keep in mind that all characters will be wiped sometime in the near future.

Just play for the sake of playing, or search for bugs and glitches.  Contributing is much more fun that sitting there and \"killing\" virtual rats in my opinion.  Besides, it\'s sort of fun when you find a glitch.  At least I think it is, anywho.

Thanks for all the links. But as you might have noticed neither thread tells you how to make money w/o killing rats ;)
But after reading several times that we are here to test the game and not for fun (exaggerating a bit...) let me put it that way:

How the heck am I supposed to test the game fully when I am stuck with killing a quadrillionfantazillion rats before I can e.g. learn to do magic? Whats the point doing that? I bet fighting rats is by far the best tested part of the game :)

I don\'t have the time to kill rats for several hours a day while hoping that one far day in the future I might be able to do more than

do{
    focus rat;
    start attack;
    read some posting;
    loot rat;
    read some more until respawn;
}while (Inventory has Space)

So because I got bored I traveled around to kill some other mobs. So I\'m stuck with 33 PP and a fist full of Trias... I can only guess what I could learn (and test) when spending the PP -- but lacking the money I\'ll never know. And the devs wont, too.

This becomes even worse with the prospect of an upcoming character wipe. Because I\'d have to do the abovementioned routine again!
And therefore even though I much appreciate the dev\'s work and do pay my due respect for their accomplishments during the past years I\'ll stop playing PS for now. Because I\'m wasting my time and motivation that could be spent more useful if there wasn\'t that little, evil money problem ;)

But don\'t rejoice yet since I\'m going to stick around :-P

Just a thought...

You could, perhaps, go to the mines and offer to buy platinum for, say, 9 or 10 tria, or maybe gold for 4 tria. You might not get any takers, but you might interest some of the advanced miners who can dig up a full load faster than they can get to Hydlaa and back.
