Armor class of shields
« on: April 21, 2005, 11:41:54 am »
Hi!
In the description of Shiled Usage I read, that the skill is capped by the skill I have in the related armor class. But where can I see the armor class of the shield?
Is a Round Striped Metal shield Medium Armor? And the larger shield which partly consists of wood should possibly be light armor but its very large so it can also be heavy armor...

My request to the devs: Show the armor class in the item description. Of course, it would make sense to extend this request to all items: Tell which skill is needed to use an item.

Before somebody comes up with realism issues like \" A car has no tag showing it needs a driving skill\" let me remind you, that you get a much more direct feedback from an item you take into your hand. And I could take a weapon in a real weapons shop and make a few swings before buing it - so I could get a feeling, if the weapon suits my honed skills ;)

Maybe the feedback could be something like: \" This shield goes well with you experience using medioum armor.\" or \" This weapon is not really usable for you. Maybe you should learn to operate vehicle mounted beam weapons before buing this 13 Gigawatt Plasmathrower\".

Please consider showing some weapon type feedback in the item info.

Thanks in advance,
MC.

I thought there was a skill named \"shield handling\" or something like that .. unless I \'m mistaken here.

That is probably the skill they mean.

Also weapon info will be available in the future .. right now it isn\'t urgent though.

What Madcrimson was getting at is when you click on sheild handling a description of the skill comes up in the info window. In the description of this skill it states that in order to use a shield you must not only have the shield handling skill but you must also have one of the correct armor skills to weild a shield correctly.

Hypothetical example:

A small wooden shield would require the \"shield handling\" and the \"light armor\" skills in order for you to use it.

A metal kite shield (shield that covers the torso) would require the \"shield handling\" and the \"medium armor\" skills in order for you to use it.

A metal tower shield (shield as tall as a man) would require the \"shield handling\" and the \"heavy armor\" skills in order to use it.

Being that shields do not work at the moment the point is moot. However, once shields do work it would be helpful if the item description listed which skills were required to use the item.

Shield Trainer Harrow says: \"Young squire, take this shield so that you may defend thyself.\"

Squire says: \"Thank you sir, but how do I use it in my defense?\"

Shield Trainer Harrow says: \"Your guess is as good as mine young squire. Let us train in all manner of skills until one seems to work.\"

Seems kinda silly eh?  :P
