This is NOT another 'wipe' Thread
« on: April 24, 2005, 03:33:41 pm »
This is not another \'The Wipe\' thread so please don\'t turn it into one and please don\'t lock it.  Thanks.

In plain RP language how can the wipe be explained?  How can I put it into a report in The PS Times starting out as a rumour and then eventually when it happens.  Why, what, when, how etc.  Ideas please.

Perhaps some kind of virus that causes massive amnesia? All people experience memory loss and thereby lose their skills.

The money disappearing is a bit tougher though .. an army of thieves marching through Hydlaa?

hmmmm I had thought of something similar to this, and it\'s good because it does explain the loss of skills.  Plus it would also explain why some players will have a different name.  Perhaps I could put in that there had also been another mutation as some players will be changing races.  But an army of thieves at the same time?  hmmmm there\'s got to be something more to link it all in.

Well it all could be explained by the past four months all being a dream (yes I no it is a tactic used far too often but it could work).  Some untried wizard used fluid of rat eye instead of essense of rat eye and caused the whole region to go into a deep slumber with one collective dream.  Finally Talad noticed the unusual quiet and woke everyone up.

Yes I know very original :D ;)

What about something from a religious perspective?

Talad, overcome with the guilt of scarring Laanx\'s beautiful face, made one last attempt at making amends.  He believed that by started all living creatures in Yliakum anew, Laanx would realize that he valued her more than any of his creations.

Laanx, however, felt this was an insult to her work and it drove the two deities further apart.

Or something.  It could be known as \"The Great Offering.\"

/me shrugs.

That\'s just my take on it...it wouldn\'t explain why all the same NPCs are around, though.

The idea of it being all a dream (although good) reminds me too much of The Matrix or Bobby Ewing coming out of the shower (if anyone remembers that bit in Dallas) :P

If it were a virus we could say that the virus is beginning to spread already, for example Tefusangs and Clackers attacking their own kind.  And NPC\'s repeatedly saying \"I\'m sorry but I do not understand you\" etc.

The religious idea is a good one also.

how about it being the spell of a very powerful group of mages? The NPC bugs are the mages perfecting the spell that is eventually used to wipe players of there skills etc. A side effect of this spell however is that a person might finds themselves having switched bodies with the person beside them(the race change).

Because this way it is the mages that caused it, they would have looted everybody as well.

Just a thought.

Point of advice if you want to make it more medieval sounding don\'t call it a virus call it a plague. Virus is too modern sounding.
You could combine the plague and the gods idea. For example talad and laanax  disguested by the greed of their people (read power leveling) sent a plague that spread the Yliakum killing all, in hope that this tme the wise ones that survive (the mb people) will be able to carry over their knowledge to the new souls.
i actually play planeshift

Exactly what I was thinking.  The people would use religion to explain a scientific truth.  The wrath of the Gods and such.

maybe the azure(or what ever it was) explotion from the inside and a magic wave wiped over the world(like a nuclear thing but not so destructive) and had killed everyone. But some survived and the started resurrecting everyone.

*walks into the forum, and shakes the morning dew off his cloak. He hears Adyna\'s question and turns to her, grinning and speaking before the others*

\"I know one way to explain \'The Wipe\'...\"

*the world pulses*

*Walks into the forum slowly, looking around uneasily as Adyna askes her question. He stands quietly as the others speak. He then speaks quietly, his head down, hopelessness painting his face*

\"I could explain \'The Wipe\'...\"

*the world pulses*

*walks into the forum quickly, not looking at anyone as he haeds straight for the bar. He hears Adyna\'s question, but knows she will never have her answer, at least not from him.*

\"Barkeep, something strong...\"

*no pulse. Shakes his head.*

\"Fate has no forgiveness,\" he whispers to the worn planks of the bar.

Perhaps something less desctructive than that -- remember the maps will stay the same and everything.  If everyone and everything got explodinated, who would rebuild Hydlaa Plaza? =D

Plus if the Crystal got destroyed, Yliakum would just be a big dead rock.

Unless you mean something similar to a solar flare (maybe the planet\'s sun had some kind of chaotic solar event that was amplified by the Crystal and wiped out the populous, leaving inanimate objects intact?)

/me tries to control her imagination. XD

Well thanks everyone, I\'ve taken everyone\'s suggestions and come up with a Plague story with a religious/magical twist.  As I said thanks to everyone as I couldn\'t have done it without your help, but don\'t let me stop you now - let your imagination run riot :)
