How to Enable Cache?
« on: May 07, 2005, 09:19:32 pm »
I was wondering if anyone knew how to \"Enable Caching\" on the Mac.
I enabled it on my PC at work and the transitions between maps became seamless.
It is a very good feature and I searched the .cfg files looking for some way to do it manually under OS X.
I tried searching the XML files too.

Hummmmmmm...

You add a line to planeshift.cfg. I believe that the line is Planeshift.LoadAllMaps = true

Not sure, though.

Remember also that you should probably have 1.5-2 GBs of RAM for that.

I have tried to add the line as described. Sorry to say - it doesn\'t work.
I got RAM enough.

Sorry, wrong line! I looked it up and found that the correct line is:
Planeshift.Client.Loading.AllMaps = true

I tested it and found that PS only takes about 400 MB of real memory (850 virtual). Anyway, the load time on my old 667 was about 5-10 minutes and then no loading between areas. :D

That\'s the line. Work just perfect. I have a loading time of 82 seconds running on a 2x 1,8 GHz Powermac. Thanks for the tip.

meant to post about this the other day, but I was busy playing ;)

This cache hack is fantastic. Only problem is that it takes longer to load PS initially, and it lags like a B***h on my ibook - could be to do with my meager 512mb ram though.

Good little trick though :D
