Remove Internet Explorer

Is there a way to uninstall/remove internet explorer? I have WinXP home.

and it will not let me romove it, and hwen i delete it, it comes back.

All it does is cause me problems, as far as pop-ups and stuff >.<


Maybe there is a windows mod or something that i can get rid of it with>?

You can\'t get rid of it. It\'s required for the OS to work. Also you need it to get updates for windows.

I just installed firefox and used that, setting it as the default browser.

I know there is a way but I do not see the point, yes it is bad and dangerous but it is deeply integerated into windows.  Without it you can not get the security updates and perhaps leave your computer even less protected than before.  If you are so worried about it then get another OS (I am not saying one in particular... cough.lin.cough.ux).

I would argue that `because\' is a better word than `but\' here ;)

`Removing\' IE just deletes it from the menu. I wouldn\'t try to get rid of it completely, simply becasue so much stuff depends on it. You can try to stop it from doing anything you don\'t want it to though. Use your firewall to completely block IE, that\'s what I do.

Hm...even Firefox is not too much more secure than IE...The only way to get rid of the IE completely...that as people said Linux, which I have along side with XP, but I found that even on Linux, I sometime need IE, for some sites that, unfortunatly don\'t want to work with FireFox.

You\'re kidding right?  I run a firewall, anti-virus, mal/spy-ware detectors, and have everything setup with security in mind.  But, about 6 months ago a web page popped up in IE (in spite of the popup blocker), in a help window of all things, and attempted to give me a virus.  IE is total garbage;  FireFox is significantly better.  Anything other than IE is automatically more secure.

I tried to kill off IE... but that ended poorly.  Just change IE\'s security settings to the max for everything, and use FireFox instead.  (may stupid things in widows will still use IE\'s junk)

Not saying that Firefox is less secure, yes, yes...it\'s considerably better...IE got it\'s own security holes....Firefox its own...

I still dont see why IE causes you guys problems, I\'ve been using this as my main Explorer for years and I have never noticed anything wrong with it. I even tested it with firefox, no increase in spyware/Adaware worms/viruses on my comp.

I guess im just special.

First you can eradicate this .......*bip*....... program
then ie is not required for windows to run
moreover, if you want to keep on upgrading your system there is another way (it\'s written in Microsoft.fr : but dont worry they did their best to be sure it\'s a difficult way to upgrade... but you can do it)
Finally the real problem of the security under my &%#%&?& Windows is the ActiveX. What is really amazing is that everyone said that with windows 98 and the problem still exists...

-> if you stop the Active X you wont be able to use ie for your upgrade... but once you reactive your activeX trying to upgrade your system will create a faillure in your security...

My conclusion:
I really like the american way of life... if you have any complaint write it to MS cause nobody seems to complain and MS keep on building its empire by fu**ing our computer and our rights!

fken: Microsoft\'s market dominance is not directly caused by lifestyles of US citizens.  It is rather the opposite way around, a self-continuing cycle: Microsoft\'s market dominance is a direct cause of its\' own market dominance.  By making things proprietary, killing other people\'s compatability, and other OS\'s being at times difficult to use, MS remains on top of the heap.
No anti-americanism in a tech help thread plz.
