GCC version
« on: May 27, 2005, 06:39:55 pm »
- What version of gcc do you use ?
- Is planeshift gcc 4.0 ready ? Most distro will be using gcc 4.0 by the end of the year by default.

GCC 4.0 is currently buggy. You have to be insane to use it now. Maybe some
next version will be used next year but, well, ATM there is no point of getting excited with this. ;)

Ok  you\'re probably right, I\'m not able to tell. However, may I know which gcc version you\'re using ? 3.3 or 3.4 ?

I don\'t think anyone has attempted to compile PS with gcc4. I know there\'s been some problems compiling CS with it, so I don\'t think everything will compile correctly atm.

Hmm.. next year you say? Ubuntu (Breezy Badger) is already coming with GCC 4.0 by default. This release comes out in ~5 months. Besides, the problems introduced by GCC 4.0 aren\'t that big. More silly C99 stuff like using \"char **blah\" instead of \"char blah[][]\"

For the record, I compiled planeshift 3.0.10 yesterday with gcc 3.4.4 and everything went fine.

My last few builds have been with gcc 4.0  and I had no trouble.

It\'s buildable with version 4.0.2. Use any other versions and you may encounter compile problems or runtime problems.
