You updated?

did you use chaos\'s updater.jar which is what we Mac users are supposed to use first?    In the old day i started by going to my Macinstosh HD symbol and clicking on that.   Then I clicked on Applications (for OS X), then clicked on Games,  then on PlaneShift 3D, then psclient.  Or at least that is where I stuck PS on my computer.   The updater at that location does not work, but after using Chaos\'s updater we are supposed to get a new updater there which is supposed to work.    I saw Dfyer\'s message last night that he had sent his work in to someone who had to approve it.
Now I am looking for the message that it can be downloaded.   Maybe you can tell me that it is now available?
I just checked the http://www.planeshift.it site and under downloads, it is still listed as the   009 version which will get you nowhere if that is what you have downloaded.

if you updated 03009 before he puts up the new version it will corrupt it. wait until fryer or someone says it\'s ready. for now you should probably reinstall 03009 and wait.

If it does not start up after updating, could open ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/psclient.crash.log and paste the last record of a crash here?  Either that or mail the whole log to me.

Thanks,
Daniel

The same thing happens for me, but It dosnt give a crash log. The program dosnt even begin to start.

EDIT: the fix is you have to run \'setbits\' which is step 4(a) in Chaos\'s guide.

The only problem is now is that it opens but it sits on a black screen with an empty loading bar. I plays the starting music alright but nothing else.

Most of the conversation about this issue is being held in the Newish Binary thread.  It looks like they need to get a new plugin put into the Mac build.
Abandon hope all ye who enter here.

pfccharacterdata.csplugin
I also can no longer get PS to  start.  When I double click on psclient, it flickers and stops.   When i double click on psupdater, it give me a window and in a few second disapears and asks if I want to file a bug report with apple.    One thing I found when updating using chaos updater was that it put the new files in my games folder but not in my Planshift 3D folder and so I checked the date created information and replaced everything with May 30 date.
I got to wonder whether the pfcharacterdata.csplugin should be with the plugin somewhere and not in the PS 3D folder.  Likewise should Updater.jar be elsewhere.

Read my instructions! Updater.jar needs to be placed in the Planeshift 3D folder to work.

P.S. I bolded and underlined this in my guide... :\\

P.P.S. The responses you mentioned (the game not launching, etc.) are the expected responses, at the moment, as we are missing a plugin critical to running the game at the moment. Just be patient and everything will be working soon.

Yep, I\'m missing the pfdefcam.csplugin & csbundle file from the distribution.  Sorry about that :/

On the bright side, there\'s a slim chance that the current version of the updater will work, and might be able to download said plugin once it\'s in place.

Thanks!

Yes, the official updater does run now, though only from the command line (I think I mentioned this somewhere else in an edit). It was running very slowly when I ran it, though (i.e. it was hard to move the mouse). I\'ve heard reports from the PCers that the game itself has been running more slowly... maybe it\'s a CrystalSpace thing?

Cha0s: Is there any chance your updater could fetch the plugins needed from somewhere else?

No. The plugin just isn\'t in the repository for Mac OS X.

If it\'s not a PS-specific thing, it may be downloadable through Fink, from the CrystalSpace site or somewhere else. If it is by the PS team, though, dfryer had to port it, so he\'s the only one with a copy.

The plugin in question is pfdefcam.csbundle from CEL (and the corresponding .csplugin file)  I have uploaded the plugin to the updater manager site, but i\'m not sure if it has been published to the main updater repository.  I\'m also cooking up a full distribution, but having some unexpected-quit issues.

Thanks,
Daniel
