Trying to startup PS from terminal
« on: May 29, 2005, 06:01:25 pm »
I followed the steps as posted by ChaOs, using the Updater.jar. The update seemed to be complete and successful.

After doing this, I couldn\'t open the psclient by double clicking on it. Somewhere else I found a post suggesting that you can activate the program from the terminal, using \"./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient \" (after entering the string cd / applications/ games etc etc...)

I did this, and got the following message:

./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient
-bash: ./psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient: Permission denied

Any suggestions?

thanks in advance!

You might have to be  logged in as admin... but the Mac OS X version doesn\'t work right now anyway. A working version should be put up shortly, though.

Unfortunately for all us Mac users, PS\'s new version is being worked on right now and is unavailabe.   So we can not play PS and any attempts to do so will get us error messages.   I just posted a message to the theme
\"Will us Mac users have to wait ...\"   I would like you comments on what I suggest.   Thankyou   javascript:smilie(\':D\')

Ah, this is a known problem with the way the updater is used (internally) - the \"psclient\" application is not marked as a proper program.

What you need to do is go to the directory that has psclient.app/ in it and execute the following command:

chmod 755 psclient.app/Contents/MacOS/psclient

and

chmod 755 updater.app/Contents/MacOS/updater

I will direct other threads to this one.

Thanks,
Daniel

Great!

I do have thousands of questions, but I wasn\'t sure wether it would be useful to post my findings. I\'ll post them for now, if i\'m posting things irrelevant due to coming updates, let me know!

Can I simply keep using the java updater to check for new updates?

I got this message when I updated:

Error updating zip file (archive) art/skins/default.zip
AR: art/skins/base/client_base.zip

Error updating zip file (archive) art/skins/base/client_base.zip
AR: art/skins/elves.zip

Error updating zip file (archive) art/skins/elves.zip
Done
Updating Mac-specific files(0 bytes of data)...Done
Update completed at 05/30/2005: 21:47:00

After the use of the commands you gave, I actually got the program to open, unfortunately it didn\'t go further than a black screen... I suppose these might be things solved with anticipated updates?

All as expected?

Thanks for the message, getting more and more curious to how the game looks (yes, I\'ve been spending my time swimming in the terminal :)

{edit}
Ok, sorry, this time I didn\'t read the forums properly... apologies....
will use updated updater from ChaOs, and wait for news like the patient newbie I am :P

S\'ok. You may want to run the updated updater to get those missing art files, by the way.
