cutting wood skill
« on: June 01, 2005, 06:24:24 pm »
I search for wood and dont find a thread name about that.

It would be nice if people were able to cut some tree to find wood and then sell it.

The tree could appears like mushrooms with a little difference: it could grow up: something like 10 steps. each time the \"tree part\" spawn on a point the tree grow up (reach a step).
And once a step is reached the tree will have 2 times more pieces of wood :
Example:
Step 1 : 1piece of wood
Step 2 : 2 pieces
Step 3 : 4pieces
Step 4 : 8pieces
Step 5 : 16pieces
Step 6 : 32pieces
Step 7 : 64pieces
Step 8 : 128pieces
Step 9 : 256pieces
Step 10 : 512pieces

Not a bad idea, I like it :)

Just a thing, were those trees apears there should be something not to far away form them, were players could save theyr wood (under the payment of some trias), because i\'m note seeing anyone carry about 500 pieces of wood each time  :D

I think if you wait for 10 steps there would be a lot of your friends close to you... ready to pick up wood too...

Yeah but about the trees...
I think they should already exist, and take a lot of time to \"grew up\" again (months, or weeks, or even years :) ). That would be very realistic, and would make players think about resource exploration more carefully..

Just an idea.. :D

I like the idea.  There is a similar skill in \"that game you can\'t talk about here\" and probably other MMORPGS.

There ought to be different types of lumber, though.  Perhaps some fine lumber could be used for Crafting?  Wood similar to ebony, teak, and others could be more valuable than say...birch wood.

I\'m probably getting this from RS since they have a system a bit similar, though they use it for fletching and firemaking instead of crafting or...construction of player owned houses /wishful thinking

well 512pieces of wood isn\'t that much to carry when you have an \"animal\"? you could buy/make a cart and make the \"animal\" pull it?

Depends on how big the peices are...  :P I think a team of animals pulling some carts should be able to lug that.

BTW
We landed on this topic for a bit in in the farming thread if you\'re interested.

you are fabuling men! lol
Im proud to see you like my idea lady MaidenIndigo and the others.
I dont think it need to be reallistic cause there is a problem... If you want it to be reallistic you will need a very big number of trees\' spawn... its annoying because it will ask for server\'s cpu load...
@dev: What do you think about this idea? is it possible?

As we already have mining, it wouldn\'t be surprising to see the harvesting of other resources (plants, wood, giant blocks of cheese) in the distant, foggy future.

« Reply #10 on: June 03, 2005, 02:34:36 pm »
I would like a cutting wood skill but wat about useing them ?
If u make a crafting skill and a archerer skill u could suply yourself with bows and arrows, or u coul make chairs wen the smithing is finished by using nails hamer and wood.
I realy like the resourches things but they have to be use full then a woodcutting skill would be very cool.

Tree Sections
« Reply #11 on: June 04, 2005, 06:17:55 am »
As the trees mature, they should have tree sections.  A small tree would just have generic wood, bark, and leaves.  Once trees mature, you could begin differentiating between hardwood in the core and softer wood on the outside.  Leaves (once dried) and Bark could be used to make tinder boxes, but would also require flint and steel (supplied by a miner).  I think the game would become more balanced if many actions would require multiple skills.

it could also be used  as a stick of an axe u made with smithing cuz u cant smith a wooden stick with iron can u.
Instead of smithing fully axe  u only smith the axe head thingy and u have to use it on the stick u made with crafting to make a axe.
Same could be done with sticks and hammer heads.

Btw good thinking.
