Guild System
« on: June 01, 2005, 10:56:34 pm »
This is a rather major request, but i feel it would be VERY cool, and unique. I believe that all players should be divided into \'clan\' like guilds but there is no player creation of these clans. However, it is necesary for only a limited number of clans to exist, say five. Via these clans there would be special events and whatnot.

This idea is very similar to what i saw in Fung Wang-possible the greatest mmorpg i ever played.

~Andrew

P.S. The players would be allowed to pick which \'clan\' they wish to join

First, this belongs in this forum. Please read the forum descriptions before posting.

Second, I don\'t like this idea. It\'s a lot funner (silence*) when players can create and nurture their own guilds or decide not to join a guild. When you impose guilds on players that don\'t want them or limit players in their selection of guilds, the overall realism and fun in the game world is lessened. A dynamic system where the players define the world (guilds being a major method of definition) is a lot more fun (happy?*) than a system where everything is dictated.

I do like this idea. What purpose do the character-creation have with \"special events\", \"birthday\" and so on if these things dont reappear in the game later?
Its not that all enkidukai or worse: all who happened to had the same experience at birth, have to be in one clan, but i really think the chosen events should affect the game much more.

These serve only to determine your stats. I think the character creation process could be better done, but no doubt it will improve with time.

I don\'t like characters to be shoved into things right after creation, as it eliminates the possibility of a lot more RP. Not everyone comes from the same place, not everyone has the same beliefs, and not everyone, when it comes to real RP, would have experienced those \"special events\" during the creation process.

Clans such as these are unrealistic - your character isn\'t just \"born\" into the world, he or she hasn\'t just \"appeared\" when you roleplay. He or she either came from another place outside of Hydlaa, or it is possible to roleplay living in Hydlaa his or her entire life. Why would everyone automatically go into a clan, if they\'ve just arrived in the city?
Judge: Are you trying to show contempt for this court, Mr Smith?
Smith: No, My Lord. I am attempting to conceal it.

a nice idea, and i know where your getting at, but i just doint think it would work for planeshift, too many people, not enough choices kind of thing.

whereas talking in IRC about guilds at one point, we\'re trying to figure out new ways of making guilds, like paying tariffs to a registrar, each guild must put forth their ideals etc, and wait for confirmation that it is good to go, then they can grab money from all their friends and buy the name :)

but thats just another idea. we\'ll see whats in store for us as we get there

Ragnarok?

hmm as for the idea. I think it might be a good idea to have directions you can chose from. That there are groups out there that aren\'t player created as in Rl hthere will also be traditions and old organizations that just seem like you can\'t influence them.

Force someone to take one I don\'t see happening. Having to kill guilds becuase of it I don\'t see why.

But perhaps change the quests you get per direction and perhaps a quest at first where you can chose what direction you wanna go in.

PS: think a \"no direction\"should also be availeble although I think that one should be harder ofcourse ;)

meh.. just to get my two cents in..

im not in favor of this idea.. any game that has this system usually has it implemented from the beginning, and it usually works its way into the essential story of the game.  i don\'t see a system like that working in a game like planeshift. but, what do i know? i know this game will look very very different in jsut a few months..

either way, im sure the team will consider it, if they haven\'t already, but im thinking it won\'t pass..

I think some of you may not having their parent enough during their childhood...

Maybe do you need someone play instead of you it would be better...

Or maybe do you simply dislike the freedom because Staline or Mussolini was one of your parents... I dont know... But what I know is that I dislike every thread like this one which are trying to force the player to play like the writter want...

\"I dont want to create my guild or I dont want to think about which guild I want to belong to, then it could be nice if EVERYBODY were forced to join a guild\"...

Each time I share my ideas I speak about something which can be nice for everyone like the \"tree cutting idea\" : not too hard to program like devs created the mushrooms system, easy way to earn money by meeting the others players for the newbees, and more reallistic...

But some people want to force people to think like them :
-> law creations
-> some words are forbidden because they dont like to listen to unpolitically correct words
-> and so ones

Really I dislike this kind of threads

I can see why some would want these divisions and they are not a bad idea.  But planeshift has never been a place for powerlevelers.  And that seems to be what we would be doing... competeing against one another to see who can be the strongest, most skilled etc.  and then there can be problems with unbalanced teams/groups like on different servers on WoW.  I was playing on one that had nearly 3 to 1 allies to horde and when pvp comes about... you wont have too much fun.
