The GM Zayek changed our guild name
« on: June 03, 2005, 05:08:35 am »
Hi,

i want to know how is possible that the GM Zayek changed our guild name from \'The Dragon Council\' to \'The Vigesimi Council\' without a discussion here first!
We are an old, big and well known guild and we have posted here before to be an official guild.
This is a very bad thing to do and i hope someone can correct this enourmous mistake....
I\'m not the guild leader but a well ranked one (our Lord is Rioth) but it\'s happened now and for me (and for my Lord) is 5.07 am now and he is not on line.
Please do something as soon as possible.......

last i remember it was discussed in IRC that dragons do not and will not ever exist thus eradicating any meaning of your guild name, now with that down, having that name creates and unsuitable, unrealist environment,

trying to change a guild name a while ago was difficult, you had to locate the leader, and talk them into doing it, if they didnt want to, you couldnt make them, especially if they jus tquit when they saw you.

the approach i made was to rename the guild now, to improve the roleplay environment, and let you take aaaall the time you ever need to think of a new suitable name, taken your opinion into consideration, i still renamed the guild now when your leader was not available, yes i was thinking of you, but you do not outweigh the needs of every other player, of which may have felt oyur guildname had spoiled their roleplaying, no long term damage has been made
as guildnames can always be changed, thus proving my task was not as bad as you deem it to be.

I for one am sick and tired seeing guild after guild pop up relating to the popular mythical creatures and other sentient beings told in stories, Dragons for one, Faeries, Vampires and santa claus, these are all linked to real life mythology, thus spoiling our roleplaying, if need be, make up a mythological creature you found bones of deep in the catacombs under the temple! worship gorbiak! something original please

with that said, i leave.

Um last I checked this is a roleplay an if you worship dragons or call yourself dragons in your guild that would be equal to a guild worshiping a god/goddess, cult or claiming to be one...(Belief isn\'t fact but its your right to believe) Maybe what I am trying to say is leave the guild name to its original form and if you don\'t like it then...you can just not ever participate with the characters in the guild or the guild itself.

Changing something just randomly whenever you think its not to your taste isn\'t exactly a good thing to be doing...pisses people off you know? Especially in this case when the name and idea isn\'t breaking any big rules...

I spoke with Zayek about the name change.  His/her reply was that a higher level GM (no name given) and they had decided that the \"dragon\" name was not allowed in Plane Shift.
I am not questioning the authority of a game master.  It seems that part of their \"job\" is the policing of character names, and in this case a guild name. But:
This was brought up before in another thread and discussed at length, I believe.  While some members contended that dragons did not exist and therefore the name should not be allowed, others argued that dragons did not exist in real life either, so it was a moot argument.
I had assumed that this thread of discussion had settled the matter, and by the longevity of the guild, it was going to be allowed to stay.
If the powers that be had determined this name was not going to be allowed, why was it not addressed at the time of the thread (discussion)?  The leader has gone to the time and expense of setting up their forum, website and other particulars for the members in the name of the Dragon Council.  Why was he not contacted first and allowed input before the decision was implemented, which would also give him time to make other necessary modifications?
Think about it.  This guild leader, and guild, have put a lot of time and effort promoting Plane Shift by demonstrating their guild enthusiasm, and someone makes a decision and slaps them in the face with it.
How do you think they feel now?
After a time, you will find that having, is not so pleasing a thing after all, as wanting.  It is not logical, but often true.

Maybe this should be redebated by teh GMs then...because if you won\'t accept people believing in dragons or calling themselves dragons...maybe you should turn this into purely realisitic online roleplaying game :P

For once, Depth is completely correct.

Seriously, if having an incomplete game does not spoil their roleplaying, the word \"dragon\" should not have a negative effect on people.

To use an example, my guild name \"Ordo Illuminatis\" has no bearing on Planeshift, and yet I doubt that is going to be hurting anyone\'s roleplaying anytime soon.  It\'s a name.

Guild beliefs is something different (whether they worship dragons or whatever) and you can\'t change them just by changing the name.

Point one, just changing a Guild\'s name without a discussion of some sort with it\'s leader is simply rude.
(At least if the name is not something like\"lasdkjfdlsk\". Just pressing some letters on your keyboard).

Point two, we don\'t really worship Dragons, our goals are similar to those of Dragons in mythology. There for the name \"The Dragon Council\".

Point three, alright so some people don\'t like the \"Dragon\" part. But as you can see in the Guild\'s official post there are allot of people who don\'t mind it at all.

Point four, the Guild currently has 144 members, they all don\'t seem to mind the name..... (Yes, so some of them are inactive, we\'re working on inactive rules at the moment).

So why not just let us be The Dragon Council?

You seem to have a rather traditional dragon in your immensely huge, over-the-limits signature image...

GM decisions are not to be discussed on the forum. Talk with Zayek or take the matter to Vengeance.
