Problem with updater in version .3.010
« on: June 04, 2005, 04:41:30 am »
It\'s seams that updater has problem merging changes to sewers.zip.
It pulled 11Mb today without problems, however merging takes forever. Sofar It\'s running for about 1 hour and it  It\'s only  20% done. I noticed that mouse movement inside updater is slow too. CPU is hardly utilized. Any suggestions?

ps. Thanks for creating/packaging great game. It  plays great on debian unstable.

After searching forums little longer I found suggestion about running updater in auto mode. That worked very well. Update finished in couple minutes. Just run:
./updater -auto

Perhaps that cursor is that Direct Rendering nasty bug in CS, I have to talk with Jorrit about that.

Because updater --auto is not using direct rendering which is buggy. I will
never underestand what the updater needs the direct rendering for anyway...

You may have direct rendering enabled, but that if your updater is using it,
that\'s the other issue. Considering recent problem with direct rendering in
Hydlaa due to Crystal Space bug, I suspect this one is some way related.

I also noticed that the graphic updater does not progress throuhg the merge when its window is not displayed (mapped).

This happens when I switch to a different virtual desktop. It either stops completely or is even slower than when displayed.
Observer .. or watcher?

Well, AFAIK, on some system it not starts update till you will move your mouse.
:D Anyway it seems to be Planeshift not installer bug. Whatever way I compile
it, no matter on which machine, with wrapper or not, it always runs slow.
So recommended is using --auto.
