What kind of game is this (client d/ling right now)
« on: June 07, 2005, 12:58:54 am »
I\'ve been playing many of the mainstream MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft, EverQuest II, and Final Fantasy XI.

Few questions.

What stage of beta is this game in, is it near release, or still a long way off?

How are the controls?

Is the game more solo or group focused

And do you guys see this game being mainstream once it laucnhes, because until today I didn\'t know this game exsisted.

Why don\'t you read around before posting questions? It usually works better ;)

Right now, Planeshift is in pre-alpha stage. Not even beta. So don\'t expect a lot, and try to keep complaining of the lack of features to a minimum :)

The controls you will form your own opinion on, but the views (changed by pressing M) are multiple, and there is mouselook.

Right now and I hope always, Planeshift is group focused,  because it is first and foremost a roleplaying game. So if you\'re looking for something hack\'n\'slash-I-enjoy-leveling-up, better look elsewhere. If you talk OOC in-game, you will most likely be regarded as odd by the other roleplaying characters, and especially so if you talk about stats. (OOC talk can be put inside parentheses or brackets.)

I don\'t know anything about Planeshift \"launching,\" as it will never go p2p. The game will continue growing and evolving for as long as its dev team continues working, and I presume that it will gain greater popularity with time, due to 1) its pure awesomeness, and 2) no fees whatsoever. However, many will learn that those who do not roleplay are not tolerated well in-game.

All-in-all, welcome, and try it out yourself as soon as you install the client! :)

By launching I meant when is it expected to be a finished product, after all of the beta tests have concluded.

I\'d say... a decade or so.

I don\'t think testing in general will ever cease. Us players are and will always continue to be testers. However, the \"finished\" product may not be here for quite some time. This is the third real \"version,\" I believe (Atomic Blue, Molecular Blue, now on Crystal Blue), and while each had immense, significant changes, we are still at a pre-alpha stage. CB itself took two years to put out, if not longer, so you can estimate for yourself the time it\'ll take to reach a \"final\" stage.

Hmm I would assume if the work needed (and with it the time being needed) rises exponentially with each version released (what I mean that the time is taken ? with each version released so it would be ((((((((2(CB))?)?)?)?)?)?)?)) (let\'s keep it with ?) it would take 3,4028236692093846346337460743177 years for the 1.0 Version to get out (we are currently at 0.3)  but i strongly doubt it is that way.
