First load screen
« on: June 10, 2005, 04:08:41 am »
Well, I\'ve got a bit of a problem. Dont know if it\'s been said but, when I click on my shortcut to PS, and it opens, It doesnt start loading. My comp says its running normally but It does nothing for over half an hour. Anyone know how this could be fixed?

We need more information.  What\'s your OS and basic hardware stats?  Does anything come up, like a blank screen, or does it just stare at you blankly?

OS is Microsoft Windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 2. Basic hardware would be, Intel Pentium 3 processir 1.00 ghz. and 768 MB of RAM. Thats all I can get/remember for this comp 1 am in the morning. And no, its not a blank white page, the pictures etc. show fine, Its just that the load bar never really starts or anything.

Sounds like your OS and memory are sufficient.  Your chip is borderline, depending on your video hardware.  If you are not running a Ge-force 2 or better, I would say that that is probably your problem.

/me scratches his head.

hmm, I don\'t know ATI all that well, but I\'d think that that would suffice.

then we can eliminate hardware as an issue.  If I were you I\'d try uninstalling and reinstalling.

Just thought of something:
I have had a similiar problem (not identical) and in my case, there are two things that can cause it:
1: No internet connection
2: Openal sound is chosen.

In my experience, either of these will make Planeshift fail to load completely past the initial screen.  So make sure you are connected to the internet, and run pssetup and make sure openal sound is not selected.

oh, wait, openal is a linux thing . . .
/me hangs his head
sorry

I\'m assuming you\'re fully up to date? Oh, and have you tried disabling sound entirely?

EDIT: You can disable sound through pssetup, by the way.

If the thing doesn\'t move at ALL (0% all the time),
It\'s because something failed to load.

Delete psclient.txt in your planeshift folder, re-run planeshift (wait a bit, 2-3 min) then close and paste the new contents of psclient.txt
