In a LAN behind a router question (and other related ones)
« on: June 10, 2005, 05:31:30 pm »
Weird title, isn\'t it?  :-)

Firstly, I would like to congratulate the developers for making a great idea come true. I have read a lot about this game and I would like to give it a shot.

Secondly, I have some questions for you, if I may.

Well my first question is the following:
If I am part of a network which shares the same routable IP, would I be able to play Planeshift?

Second question:
How well would the game run on my configuration?
My configuration is:

CPU Athlon Thunderbird 950 Mhz
SDRAM 256MB
Video card Geforce 2 MX400, 64MB
OS Slackware GNU/Linux 10.1
I also have a 1GB swap partition (don\'t laugh!, didn\'t want to run out of swap space ;-) )

Third question

Is there anyone out there which has a mirror of the game in Romania? Both running it and as a downloadable archive. That would really improve my downloading speed.

Thank you in advance and I sincerely hope that the answer to my first question is yes. :-)

/later

Fourth question (just came up with it);

If I start a new character and the game changes as in adds new features, will my character adjust accordingly?

Moved to Tech Help.

For question 2: Minimum system specs can be found in section 1.1 of the Player\'s Guide on the website. You\'re a little low on RAM but it should run on your system. You\'ll probably get choppy performance though.

I have read the System Requirements section, I just wanted to get some feedback on how bad my game will run with the current hardware configuration.

I hate to be nagging, but I really *NEED* the answer to the first question - If I am behind a router and I don\'t have a routable IP, will the game work, please?

I think you\'ll be able to.
Are there any MoonSeekers left?

1. If you have unlimited outbound access, it SHOULD work fine as long as the NAT is fully working. It works for me

2. It might run a bit hacky since you don\'t have very much ram, I would recommend you get another 256MB module or why not a 512MB? It would really make wonders

3. Google? \"index of\" \"PlaneShift_wahtever.exe\" .ru

4. Nope, but we will wipe the chars in a while when stuff works much better (And please dont\' think \"There isn\'t any point in playing\" because it is, you will be very familiar with the gameplay and have friends to help you get started after the wipe)

can you enable NAT on your router? then it should work without a problem.

Thank you very much for your anwers. I have already started downloading it and by tonight I might be a planeshifter as well.

Regarding the NAT problem, I don\'t have access to the router, therefore I can\'t change anything. I only have outbound access, not a full workable/routable IP.

Generally all routers has by default unblocked all ports and are routing
everything from everywhere to everywhere. There are some of them that has
by default everything dropped to force stupid admins to configure them, but
that is quite rare.
