Ignorance is bliss. I say bring on the gas, the knives, and afterwards - the painkillers. =/
That\'s my state of mind. They didn\'t give me sleeping gas though because it\'s generally delivered through a mask that covers both the mouth and nose, so I had to have an injection. It isn\'t bad compared to 16 shots.

Got mine removed 8 months ago, apparently I had a rare case and my Wisdom teeth were growing way beneeth it should, (was pushing out my back teeth pretty far) so I had to get sugery on my jawbone.
As I hear, that\'s called impacted teeth and it\'s quite common though the most severe cases are very rare.

why do i even need the stupid things gone? what have they ever done to me? just because my mom had a bad experience with them as an adult... i\'m gonna be so freaking angry when i grow up to find out that having your wisdom teeth out like increases your risks to get cancer or something...
Most people\'s jaws are generally too small to accommodate wisdom teeth. In the past, even young adults would generally have lost a few adult teeth very early because of poor dental care, so there was space for wisdom teeth.
The earlier one gets one\'s wisdom teeth removed the better (adolescence or early twenties at the latest) because severe complications can occur in adults. Impacted wisdom teeth are known to cause infections, cysts and (cancerous) tumours. Also, the earlier you remove them, the easier it is for the dentist or surgeon because the teeth roots haven\'t had time to strengthen.
Most orthodontists advise their patients to have their wisdom teeth removed very early because they tend to push the front teeth forward, which would ruin any straightening previously done. (And no one wants to wear braces for another 4 years when you thought you were finished with them).
There is some danger to having your teeth removed (infection, damage to bone or nerves) but it is outweighed by far by the dangers of adulthood complications.
