Goooooaaaaal!!
« on: June 11, 2005, 10:00:59 pm »
Right, searched and found nothing!  Is there a topic like this that I missed?  Post the URL! :)

Sports.
I think we should create sports in the world of Yliakum.  No, I\'m not asking for football, baseball, lacrosse, hockey, etc.  I think we should create brand new sports with brand new names and rules.  OR at least something partially new, such as a game which already exists, but with a neat fantasy twist.

An example off the top of my head: Onion Ball.
In Onion Ball, (this is not completely orriginal, I\'m basing it off Dodgeball) there are two (or more) players.  Each player is given one onion and is put on one side of a small field.  Each player must try to throw their onion at their opponent as they themselves try to dodge the onion.  If you hit your opponent with your onion, you gain a point.  First person to say... three points wins.  There would be more rules such as boundaries to the field and such, but this is just an example.

Well, there are many possibilities with sports.  I\'m sure some of them could be created without something being implemented, but some sports may require commands, such as /throw, etc.  Maybe a stadium could be created for the use of all sports, or even a new room in the arena.  I think it would be fun having tournaments or championships.  Hey, our characters have to stay fit, right?

Yeah, yeah, there are many things which are much more important than scripting sports, but maybe someday we could have stuff like this!  It\'d add something pretty orriginal to this game, how many RPG\'s have sports in them?  How about we start brainstorming and create some examples of easy-to-scrypt (or no scrypting required) games to play?

Questions?  Comments?  Just plain confused?  Reply! :)  Tell me what you think about this idea.

Woooooooooo! Onion ball!!!
That would be great!

But really, sports would be a good thing to add to PS. They would give you something to do when you are bored.

bored... i experience that alot these days...

hmmm.... what sport should i invent?

i think some kind of primitive box car racing would be fun... you know where you sit in a wagon and race it down a hill... atleast that is fun in real life :D
also don\'t know how that could be imlemented though, and i\'m not sure how fun it would be in game either...

Well there is already one sport in the history of Planeshift. It was a type of race with some sort of mounted animals .. but I can\'t remember the name of the creatures. It is in your character creation process though where you can pick the experience of being a jockey with that sport.

I know it \'s not much and definitely won\'t be put in for a while if it is at all but it shows that the devs do consider having at least some sports available I think.

A body developement skill would match the sport activity (developing that skill is still not implemented , or i havent foud the way to develop this skill yet)
