Diagnostic file?
« on: June 13, 2005, 02:40:22 am »
I know I\'ve read somewhere before that you should click yes when these things pop up. Before, every time I quit, it pops up. Today, it pops up 1 min. after I log on and then shuts down the game. Is this right?

Send the diagnostics file to Androgos using the link in his sticky thread, at the top of this forum area.

Edit: I made it easy for you: http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=16574&boardid=33&styleid=3

1. Click the link in my post above yours.

2. You will be shown Androgos\'s thread.

3. His thread contains a link to a webpage with a Browse button.

4. Click the Browse button and find the Diagnostics file in your computer.

5. Click OK and send the file.

Phew...

I\'m having trouble uploading the .dmp file.

I go to the page http://command.no-ip.com/dmp/, browse to the .dmp file in my PS directory. Select it, and attempt to upload. It says \"File NOT uploaded, no comment\"

I\'m leaving the psclient.txt field empty (as my psclient.txt file is 8129Kb at the moment), and the ask questions/progress box empty too.

I\'ve been getting errors all day, usually two or three minutes after I connect.

Edit: I should note that I\'ve run the PS Updater, and everything is update.

OKay, have just tried deleting the .dmp file, no dice sorry. Crashing like a dream, attempted upload, still \"File NOT uploaded, no comment\". Sorry. The address that it crashes at is 01231C20.

He meant delete the text in your psclient.txt file.  Every time you run PlaneShift, more information gets appended to that file.  Deleting the entire file itself would also have the same effect.

Okay, I\'ve deleted the psclient.txt file, restarted the game, crashed it (just by wandering around), got a brand new .dmp file, and a brand new psclient.txt file (now only 140k), attempted to upload BOTH of them (so only blank field is now further comments), and it\'s still File NOT uploaded, no comment.

*sigh*

After much research (a.k.a. a bunch of people in IRC having a complaining session), any errors that end in xxxx1C20 are something new that is plaguing all clients.  No one updated anything, so as of yet the source of the problem is unknown.

To me, anyway.  There are plenty of others who probably know more about it than I do.

So sit tight, and I\'m sure once it\'s solved there will be much rejoicing and merriment.  I mean, uh...someone will post the solution in the forums.

~Indi

edit: The problem I\'ve described has apparently been fixed.  To put it simply, it had to do with the database telling your client to display something that doesn\'t exist. :)
The fixed code hasn\'t been put into practice yet, so it might still crash for a little while.

It is in your PlaneShift Crystal Blue folder in Program files (if you are using Windows). Look for file PlaneShift_username_Version_date_addressxxxxxxxx.dmp There should only be one dmp file.

Run the updater, as the devs have fixed it (http://www.planeshift3d.com/wbboard/thread.php?threadid=17174&boardid=33&styleid=3&sid=f53e2becced82e0c4a437e9a08f6d80c)
