Shield Handling Advancement
« on: June 15, 2005, 03:46:38 am »
Hi,

After performing all of the necessary steps (training to the proper level, purchasing a shield, etc.), I recently tried to raise my skill level in shield handling but was unsuccessful.  Although my sword handling improved after fighting various monsters, my shield handling experience refused to raise.  I think that this is a bug, but I am not sure.  After searching the webboard multiple times for similar topics, I found a character with the same problem who had started a like thread.  Although one forum user stated that it was a bug, another mentioned that he was at level two in shield handling, which implies his skill level did raise ?( .
Can any developer or other knowledgeable person give me an explanation?

To whoever reads this, thank you for your time :D .

P.s. Thanks for bringing a free 3D MMORPG to the public! :)

Hm.  I am under the impression that shields are as of yet unimplimented, which would mean you would be able to buy the skill but not acquire practice points.  Perhaps I am wrong . . .

Yep, this is on the list of non-implemented skills.  You can buy it, but not practice, and it does nothing.  It is possible to have points in some of these skills, though.  Various selections during character creation give you some starting skill levels.  For example, I have some herbalism and cooking skills, but I can\'t do anything with them.

According to the list on the Planeshift website http://www.planeshift.it/guide/guide-skills.html shield handling is not \"inactive\", although shield making is  8o .

This may explain one character\'s claim of having a level 2 (if I remember correctly) shield handling skill level :) .

Apparently it\'s a bug, so the website is wrong.

Thanks DaveG for directing me to the bug report  :) , it is much appreciated!

Do you know if this problem exists on all platforms though (I\'m on a Mac)?

Most likely.  Bugs in PS are usually platform-independant.  For instance, the stances don\'t work right now, on any platform.
