Role-Playing: The State of the Planeshift Union
« on: June 15, 2005, 08:57:59 pm »
I\'ve been playing PlaneShift actively for a good time now, but have to honestly report that role-playing is somewhat scarce.  Unfortunately, role-palying in my experience has turned out to be the exception not the rule :( .  Not to forget that at first, I too, role-played less ;) .   Although there\'s massive threads and discussions dedicated to PlaneShift role-playing,  I\'ve honestly only been able to role-play with a few other characters.  Do you guys have any thoughts about this topic?

P.s. Here\'s a role-playing \"stereotype\" test that classifies your RP character, thought you guys might be interested.  And by the way, I still love PS and will continue playing, just wondering about the RP expereience.

See this thread for my thoughts on RPing in PS. I don\'t think it\'s feasible while PS is still in alpha/beta/whatever, but hopefully a system like the one I presented in that thread can be implemented eventually to help encourage RP.

Cha0s, I understand somewhat how the thread you linked to above correlates to my problem.  But it seemed to be about a more specific problem that relates to the issues between realism and RPing and communication.  Perhaps it was the wrong thread or I misunderstood you ?( .  I was refering to role-playing in PlaneShift in general; the conversations that we all have while we\'re roaming around the world, possibly with characters we aren\'t familiar with, not necessarily fellow guild members or the like.  Thanks for your response!

P.s. Thank you especially for your Mac OS X guide to running PS  (I had no hope of playing it before reading and implementing that) and your other work for making PS playable on the Mac platform! :D

Hrmmm? That thread is about \"enforcing\" (i.e. encouraging) RP in a PS. I thought it was very relevant. :\\ Having GMs run quests and making simply killing things not very worthwhile, etc.

P.S. You\'re welcome. I\'m glad that you\'ve found my guide helpful. :)

Try the taverns, that\'s where it usually happened, while I played.
It is scarce, but only with use can it become more spread.

Hmm, well it seems that more people visit the forums than actually play the game (including myself though not really my fault) either because they can not get it working or because they have dial-up and it is really hard to get those freakin\' huge art and data files when your already slow internet connection keeps dying (I would fall into the latter catagory).

Hmm, and Xordan are you sure you did not make that site because that discription is definately all you :P

Feel silly to ask this  :baby: , but how do you guys get the picture of your stereotype into your post ?( ?

I\'m using Safari if that makes any difference (it\'s a pretty recent version I think).
