Hmm... it says im a mischievous child. While it may be partly the truth for me, its the direct opposite of my char. I guess the quiz is too stereo-typy(i know its not a real word)..

(well, I\'m talking here but I\'m not the best roleplayer :P)

I\'m most definitely not a great RPer myself, but I use my imagination and try to be appropriate.  The most important component of a good RPing experience is not wether you know every little tiny detail of RPing rules, in fact that can get annoying :P , but rather that people try to RP in the simplest sense of the phrase, not achieve perfection.

I used to tak IC when with RPer\'s and OOC when not.  The problem with this strategy is that right now, OOC chat is the rule instead of the exception.  For newbies, this is understandable;  you finally get the game working (after, in some (my) cases, six months of trying), you\'re just excited to finally be on, you haven\'t read the rules, and it hasn\'t occcured to you that you should probably be talking in character.  Fine, that\'s forgiveable.  But there are plenty of oldbies who still speak OOC all of the time, without even bothering with parenthisis.  Moreso than not, I\'d say.  Which is why I now strictly adhere to the strategy of using paranthesis when OOC, but most of the time just speaking IC.  This means that most of the time I\'m speaking IC when no one else is, in the hopes of encouraging newbies and oldbies alike to follow my lead.

I am defenitely not a great RPer either, but staying in character is simple enough, and, I think, greatly enhances the PS experience.

Well, i happened to be arguing with \"Ooga Booga\" the guildmaster of \"The keepers\".  I asked him what the purpose of his guild was, and why he kept using \"u\" \"4\" \"2\" \"wat\" \"lol\" instead of spelling things out, then the argument got more heated, and he said \"He could do what he wanted\". he also reffered to runescape as a \"role playing game\" (that made me fall off my chair in laughter).

Seems he is mass recruiting for his guild, which has the purpose of \"Uniting people and having lot of fun\"

also, a may as well show you what someone said to me when i told them to start roleplaying for once ;)

i guess i suck and im a non fun person then. Oh well, that means nothing to me out of the mouth of a non roleplayer

/me shakes his head in disbelief

. . . well, not disbelief so much as frustration.  Sadly, that is easy to believe.  I have been told before that I take the game far too seriously, only for trying to stay in character around someone who had absolutely no interest in Role Playing.

Its alright taser. I had the same thing with the chosen few guild. Though,my situation some would call harder, because unlike taser the invincible,I was not up for a 5 on 1 fight.

BTW: I got shapeshifter for the quiz thing.

I believe the inherent problem with role-playing in Planeshift is a lack of understanding what Planeshift is all about.

For example, take the all time classic role-playing game D&D.  Now it is very easy to role-play that game.  Everyone knows what a knight is, or a magic-user, or a dragon, or a skeleton.  Using the basis of fuedal, medeival society is easy because everyone has a basic understanding or a frame of reference.

Now with Planeshift everyone is starting from nothing.  I created two characters so far and I know very little about them.  And one of them is human.  It says something to the affect that they have siblings and they are from this or that.  I have no frame of reference.  Now granted I probably need to understand Planeshift history better but as far as I can see the developers of Planeshift is not going out of the way explaining it.  One has to do some searching.

Here are some ideas for developers to get the role-playing going a little bit better:
1) Create movies, websites, or stories around the characters.  Not the towns, lands, or the cities but only the people that we are role-playing.  I think a movie would go a long way
2) Promote RP\'ing straight from the frontpage of the website.  The only thing I see on the frontpage is news about RL and downloads and links.
3) Promote up the guilds that support RP\'ing.

This is just my take.  I\'m curious if anyone else feels this way.

That is a good point Larrydog, we should know more about how the races interact. There are a few stories on the roleplay forum that give some good ideas- for example Moogie\'s stories. She knows a little bit about the background, being a Dev and all ;)
But others should try to expand on what is told in the settings. How about a day in the life of a Enki family? Or a klyros\'s first glide?
