sometimes this is what happens.  Today it has quite on me several times.
And a maybe 15  minutes ago it quit 3-4 times right in a row.  I gave up.
This is a beta product and the system goes off unexpectily.  Sometimes when it is in between major upgrades it will be off a week or more.

Running Planeshift alone (i.e. no other open apps) should increase it\'s stability. PS is a huge RAM hog, so the more RAM it has, the better.

EDIT: And based on your specs, I\'d assume that this is part of your problem. I have a computer about twice as slow, but it has 1 GB of RAM and rarely crashes. Get more RAM and it should run better.

Also, when you get \"unexpected quits\", a file is created inside your home directory, in Library/Logs/CrashReporter/psclient.crash.log with details about where in the program it crashed.  One thing you should try (if you haven\'t) is turning off background music, as it\'s been known to cause trouble.
