Ores and Smithys (SP?)
« on: September 11, 2002, 08:10:16 pm »
There should be various \"ores\" in the world (it is all under ground) that can be mined or found on creatures (or bought).  They could be serveral different weights and could be used to create weapons and armor (for a fee, or if you owned a forge and had smithing skills, you do it yourself).  The quality of the product could be based on the process used and the skill of the forger.  And there would always be a real-time delay while it\'s being forged.

I see a whole area for expansion here...

I remember that this was in Ultima Online.  It was pretty cool, and some people only smithed things instead of hunting.  Although I could never do it because I was too impatient to mine the stuff.

So, if you had it on the forge too long it would b brittle or something? That sounds cool. It would be much better than just clicking on windows to make it.

well one thing that i would like to see happen with the smithing system is to make it where people can just mine all day long or smith all day long. This goes along with one of my other posts in the food section but if you were going to mine and smith it should drain on a stamana bar that you would have, that way people couldnt sit there and get a butt load of ores and make a whole lot of money off of it and skreww up the economy of the whole game, as seen in runescape.

Good point, but if they gete too weak to move then they can\'t go anywhere to refresh themselves. So they\'re bar would also have to refill in a timely manner,

i think making weapons/armor should depend on your personal skill as well not just your char skill. Like the higher your smithing skill the easier t is to make. but you must hit it with a hammer in certain spots to make it.

Also interactive mines. Not hit the dirt 5 times i find some iron. more like, dig a mine shaft , find stuff mine it, pull it out, leave some in there sell the mine property. There could be prospecting skill and the ability to dig out and go into tunnels/mineshafts. that would be fun 8)

Maybe but it\'ll be impossible to dig your own mine shaft.
The only engine that I know that can do that is the geomod engine used by redfaction.

P.S y did u reply to such an old post

Yeah the thing with that is
the server would have to track every hole dug by every player in the game world.
Which just takes away from more important things.
Especially since you just know there will be idiots running aroun making random holes all over

This goes for all skills, lvls etc.. In each game you got ppl who do only one thing and try to be the best in it. Not only smithing or minning but also fighting etc. If you want to put a \'stamina penalty\' on actions like these, then it should be put on all skills and actions (wich i think isnt a bad idea, makes the game even more realistic).
And it would also give an goal why players should eat and drink at home or at Kada\'s Inn.
