How should I upgrade my RAM?

Current Setup: (on this comp)
SPD Memory Modules:
   DIMM1   256 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz) (2.0-2-2-5 @ 100 MHz)
   DIMM2   256 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz)

Current Setup: (on downstairs comp)
SPD Memory Modules:
DIMM 1   512MB  PC2700  DDR SDRAM (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166MHz)
+++++++++++++++++++++++

I\'m hoping to up my RAM to at least 1GB.

I\'m planing to buy a 1GB DDR-400MHz PC3200 card, could get one for just under $70. But what should I do with the other memory?

If I keep my curent chips (my new mobo will have 3 (or 4) slots) my speed will stay at 100Mhz, but I will have 1.5GB. If I for say, give \'em to my bro, I will have 1GB at 400Mhz.

Also I could swap the two 256Mb sticks with the 512MB 166Mhz in the downstairs com

p.

What should I do.

Also, am I getting the thing with the MHz right? The 1GB PC3200 cards say they are 400Mhz, but I hear that they can only be 200Mhz. Also there is the whole divide by 8 trick, which would give me 400Mhz, but would mean that my curent RAM is at 262.5Mhz. Little help here?

hehe 52 views and no answers, looks like your title is very atractive ;)
I dont know much about RAM frequencies but there\'s one thing I know, you should try to sell your 100/133MHz RAM, I sold my 64MB/100MHz for 80EUR about 6 months ago cause it\'s very rare and some old comps can\'t handle faster stuff. So maybe you can get all the RAM you want by selling what you have, just a thought

Does youre motherboard support dual channel ram?
If so, i suggest buying 2 identic 512mb (ex twinmos)instead of 1 1024mb.
1 dimm in slot1 and 1 dimm in slot3 or 1 in slot2 and 1 in slot4.
That way you increace the read/write speed.
And the total memory don\'t have higher speed than the slowest one (i heard).

I\'m getting a new Mobo, so I\'m looking to get dual chanel suport.

Think I can sell them on Ebay?

Running different frequencies is NOT healthy!

You know what I read once..that frequencies on RAM don\'t matter nearly at all...\'cos they all run at set one...uless you unlck your CPU...don\'t know how true is that though :D

You can try, but you shall fail! Seek us not, we shall find you.
