« on: June 28, 2005, 06:41:15 pm »
Please help me... i dowloaded it and first off when i tried to update it said downloading registry for 3 hours! so i figured it screwed up and tried again for another hour... same thing. so ok ill just make a character... i cant even see the whole screen... its up at the top left of my screen and a bunch that i need to read is cut off. tried F11 and minimize and still nothing. then i cant figure out how to do the skills and stuff... maybe its the part im missing i dont know. its says paths at the bottom and next over to the side but i dont want to skip either part. Im starting to believe that the game isnt real. i played EQ for 3 and a half years buts its expensive. HELP ME PLEASE!!!

For the love of God... I know someone knows how to fix this.

All you need to do is fix the screen resolution on your properties

or u can right click on it in the toolbar, select move and press the shift key while moving it with the arrows.

The downloads are rather big, and the updater has been known to have a few issues every now and then, and as this \"game\" is still a pre-alpha tech demo, most things will not run smoothly from the first. Please try to work with this :) Planeshift is not EQ, nor will it ever be, and comparisons between the two different systems are rather without point. The thing is that you definitely need those updates, as various crashes and bugs will occur without the fixes they include. Are you sure the updater froze completely for three hours, or perhaps you missed its progress?

The Paths are simply a quicker way of generating stats for your character, if you don\'t want to spend a lot of time working over the details (the Next button). Right now the longer customization seems to be buggy in various parts, so using the Paths is preferred.

Thank you Pretz! that worked nicely... and Karyuu thank you for the character customization help and I realize its not Everquest and its not a finished game but it seems better than Runescape and its probably better than having to pay. Instead of being snide you could do like Pretz here and just help me out. I\'m not completely computer illiterate and just because you have played the game doesnt mean you are more intelligent than I am. The condescending tone isnt becoming. Just because its not a quite \"ready\" yet doesnt mean the community has to be :).
And because evidentely I\'m inferior today, I am considering re-installing. I didnt get up and leave and came back after 3 hours, I sat here to watch the progress and it said the same thing for that long. So will re-installing help? Is that a good idea?

Wow, maybe you misread my post. I\'m absolutely sure that there is no condescending tone in what I wrote, and I never stated anything about anyone being inferior to someone else. Chill out :) Pretz gave you advice about one thing, I gave you advice about something else - repeating the same thing would be pointless, right?

As I\'m not sure about the reinstallation, someone else will have to reply to that. Good luck however, may everything work soon!

Indeed the updating process is way too long (well 3 hours is abnormally wrong) you can always try to run the updater in recover mode (start->ps->updater recover mode) anyway it\'s possible that the laanx server hasn\'t much outbound throwput (is that well written?) and some of the nodes connecting to laanx are tendant to packet loosing, either they are not well configured or not well dimensioned for the amount of traffic they\'ve to support.
If you\'ve the 3.010 version you won\'t get anything from redownloading again (if it has been installed, its integrity has been already checked) so i suggest you run the updater again. If it stops again, it could be that some file got corrupted and since you can\'t know wich one, then reinstalling could be a good idea.

I, too, don\'t see anything wrong with Karyuu\'s post.
Anyway, the registry is only ~500 kb in size, so there is no way it can take 3 hours for progress to show.
Furthermore, the updater will time out if it cannot connect to the server. Therefore, it seems to indeed be experiencing one of it\'s hang issues. It usually requires you to restart the updater, maybe several times, until it works.

Thank you everyone. I will indeed retry the issues with the updater and I do apologize if I misread your post, Karyuu. I was aggravated at the whole thing and shouldnt have replied to your post as I did, which is moot considering I already did. I hope you will accept my sincerest of apologies. Once again everyone, thank you for the help and may your beards grow long indeed.

Is BitTorrent4 imperative to the process and does it come separate from the download in the first mirror?

http://planeshift.xpam.de/

here you can find a version without the need of running bittorrent, if you don\'t want to use any BitTorrent client, simply don\'t click the torrent link :P

Lol... Wonderful, I\'m starting to like you already..

Now, as for this and runescape (seeing as all the important things have been answered) well, what can I say? The only place on runescape where you are ever guaranteed to find anything with more brains than a clam is the rants forum :P
Yes, this game is far better.. Training is more interesting, there are more non-levelling things to do and the community is great :)

With the updater, I\'ve run it in command prompt since the first time it decided to stuff up.. Seems to work better.. So if you have trouble with it again, that\'s what I would suggest :)

ok... i read this a few days ago but i dont really understand what is going on. but from what i understand  updater no workies... have you allowed it internet access or stuff, do you have a firewall that could stop.

*leaves with a feeling he has made himself look real stupid.*
<Rux> i wish i could say that narrows it down, but the internet is one freaky place

Well Drey not stupid, just illogical...how could he have posted this thread without internet access

I had a similar problem, I just uninstalled and reinstalled it and it worked fine.

But use this as a last resort ;)

Re-read Drey\'s post. Now who looks silly? :D

*Me points at the word \"it\", referring to the Updater, just incase it\'s still unclear*
