In the future...
« on: June 30, 2005, 04:49:32 am »
I have been thinking ( a long way in advance) about music. And I thought, Hey wouldn\'t it be good if there was some way using a midi keyboard to project sound to anyone who wished to listen to you.
Then, the people of Yliakum could give you ratings and you could advance that way- through your actual skill at music!

Just a thought for the future.

PS. Some people might not like this because they couldn\'t play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star if their lives depended upon it!

In the future .... where everyone player have at least 512kbps bandwitch ;) there could be voice chat implemented, to get the bards occasion for real speech/sings.

(if they could get trough from surroinding noise of of other players)

Oh my my ... i said : \"in the future\" and \"where everyone player have at least 512kbps bandwitch\" heh it was my dream ... however the technology is developing so fast that i wouldnt be suprised if after 5-10 years from now you could play PS on your wearable jacket PC with the voice chat :)
(bah! the technology would allow to do it even today but it has extremely high price)

Returning to the topic :
Midi music would be nice - next flavour to PS realm, its good idea because dont require wide bandwitch for music data transfer. Well .. there would be need for muting some bad musicans ;) but the songs in tavern or
music played by bards while others would be fighting, could be something i would like to hear in game someday.

I dont know much about music creating but i suppose the medieval instruments midi soundbank could be good idea also.

I was thinking about it myself a couple months ago, but with internet at the speeds it is, it\'s not feasible. But yeah, in five years, who knows???

Of course for the time being, an in-game system where you create your music inside of planeshift (with only a single channel of eight different notes of panpipe) would be very possible.

I personally would love an in-game music system. It\'s something that other MMORPGs haven\'t done yet.

MaidenIndigo looks around the thread cautiously.

\"A sandwitch is a sandwitch, but a bandwitch is a meal!\" :D

As for the public MIDI thingie....I think it would be easily spammed and people would have guitar riffs for Metallica songs and other OOC stuff.  You can\'t mandate that people need to think up original songs, it just wouldn\'t work.  Plus you wouldn\'t have an electric keyboard in Yliakum.  That\'s so....*imagines an Enkidukai with a keytar*

Even with an acoustic instrument...I dunno.  Perhaps one could buy the \"sheet music\" (MIDI sequence) from a merchant, and then play it on their own instrument?

I just fear something like this would be very, very spammified.

Yes, maybe the Mods could rae you, and then when you want to play for someone you have a command /play for XXXXXXX  Then they see your skill rating and they can say yes or no.
Just another thought.

PS. I agree with Zulus, by the time the Devs are even thinking of this 512kps Bandwith will be a thing of the past and my Location will be, Space station B, The Moon ;)

first i dislike the title of the thread... \"in the future\" ... really are you thinking a wish of the wishlist forum is in the past or in the present ?

so if its possible change the title -> something like \"music making wish\"

Then I like the idea but dont like the quality of the midi\'s file...

and finally are you guy thinking that a normal midi file could explose your bandwith (bandwitch ?) ????? even for a 56kbps there is no problem to download a midi file...

PS : if the music is simply bought please dont use a midi file !!! Stop destroying my ears !!!
