no background in dalogs and login screen
« on: July 04, 2005, 01:00:45 am »
See screenshots:

Since there is no background and no button displayed in the pssetup dialog it is hard to get rid of it.

On the login screen only some text is shown, everything else is white. I do not see the text input fields nor the text in them so I cannot log in.

I think you need to install updates from my site, run the updater and then you
need some major graphic card drivers update...

What update?
I installed the PlaneShift_CBV0.3.010.run.

The white areas displayed the same before and after running the updater.

The graphics driver is in X.org, there is nothing that can be upgraded afaik.

Some other OpenGL games worked fine.

I can try to search for stuff that links to libGL and see if it works but I never had such problems.

Thanks

There is also an UPDATE for the installer available on my site. What graphic card have you got? Standard DRI driver rather sucks...

As I asked in the other thread, I think you should check your graphic card drivers...

It is not clear that the update is meant to further upgrade the installer.

From the description and version number I guessed it is meant to bring an older version to 0.3.010.

I will try to install it as well.

I use a Matrox G400 card as it is quite well supported in GNU/Linux and it was sufficient for everything so far :)

But it is true that Matrox is more known for picture quality and video acceleration than 3D performance. Especially on these older cards it is quite poor. But it should at least display something, right?

From what I know it depends from the drivers, but I can be wrong.

That is installer UPDATE, well, I am planning some changes in installer version
numbers since some people find current system confusing. Anyway, that file
had been recently changed and now contains newest possible Planeshift Linux
binaries. See FAQ. About Matrox card - see on vendors page if there are no
newest drivers than you already have available because Planeshift is quite
demanding game.

I tried to install the update and it did not help me.

I also tried to install the Matrox driver for the card and it does not work. However, it falls back to indirect rendering which is slow but it displays the bitmaps properly.

I set up the client with indirect rendering and tried to connect with the xorg driver. I could see the rotatng thing but everything else was white and there was no character displayed. It shows that there is indeed a problem with the driver.

I could try to recompile the glue code for the Matrox driver so that it can possibly work with xorg 6.8.2. But I am not sure the Matrox driver is any better than the xorg one.

Looks like I should get a different card or a different game.

Thanks
