to play the game
« on: July 04, 2005, 03:42:18 am »
g\'day there whom ever you are

i try to give some positive ideas from a players point of view. so please bear with me the complains i have
first keep in mind there are thousands (millions) of players who have less than 2% of your knowlegde of computers (i am 1 of them) and their way of operating so try to keep things simple for them.
to make your game popular you have to make it easy accessible. how about a simple spot on your front screen
saying \"play game\"
this would be a good begin to get ppl to play it
as i have spent over 1 hour and not found out how to start playing, you can see the problem of getting ppl to play it,
once i get past the point of actually playing this game,
i would not mind to give you some ideas as i see fit

regards,
hollowjohn

Have you perhaps noticed the \"Download\" link right on the front page menu?

sure have noticed \"download game\"
have even downloaded it but still not playing game
like i said why not make this simple to use coz right now i am abot to quit this game b4 i started it
you need to make easy prompting if you want a lot of players to play this
you will not get tens of thousands of players if they have to get used to your way of thinking.
you will get them if you make access easy
if you want any ideas of how to get that than please talk to me about how i ( with my 2% of computor intellegence)would like to see how to get easy access to the came
an answer if i noticed the\" download now\"does not let me play the game ..
hench it gives more frustration to a future player and 1 step closer for me to quit b4 i even seen the game

What exactly is your problem with playing it? Have you downloaded the client for your operating system (Windows XP, or MacOSX, Linux, etc.)? Have you double-clicked on the saved download and followed through with the installation? Have you attempted updating the client, then running it? The steps are fairly simple, and if you are having trouble with basic computer operation, then this is not the best place to begin your learning of how things work. Otherwise, can you please provide a more detailed account of what is stopping you from accessing the game? Are you aware of how downloads work?

Also as a side-note, Planeshift isn\'t meant for tens of thousands of players and I doubt it will be for a long long time. The game is still in pre-alpha stage, and many options and features are still in development.

If your font screen you mean the login one, I think it is quite intuitive that you use \"ok\" independently from your computer knowledge for going further.
SImilarly on the character selection screen, join game cannot be misunderstood.

If you are referring to some other screen, please tell which.
I have done some usability test with an application based on PS code that has a really similar interface and I didn\'t have THAT problem, and the person I was testing was having NO knowledge about games.

If you are more specific we can try to help you or explain why things are like that.

g\'day

it seems that my biggest problem is trying to get the game up and running
in my lack of computoer skills i have a problem to follow the things i have to do to get to play your game
if i would have good pc skills it might help ..but i am a roleplayer not a designer
so far i have downloaded bit torrent
also down loaded an other one blue crystal i think
still not sure wat i am doing or whre i am going sofar i spent over 2 hours (more like 3 or 4) to get to play your game
there has to be an easier way to prompt me how to get to play this game
 regardshollowjohn
p.s. i have not got to a log on screen yet

I think it would be a lot easier at this point to leave bittorrent alone and follow the instructions posted here.

*edit* Ary, the problem seems to be with the individual not knowing how to use bittorrent :) The actual game has not been downloaded yet.

I really think that plenty of people with no computer skills are able to start the game.

Please, instead of saying the same thing again, can you try to be more specific in the problem you get? I am not understanding *what* is not working.

When you downloaded the file did you press \"run\"? Did you then install the game properly?

If not, you might have to search the file you have downloaded and doubleclicked it, so you get it going.

If you have installed, try to go in:
start->programs->planeshift crystal blue->planeshift tech demo
That should run the game. You will notice in the menu also a manual (the guide) and planeshift setup that can be handy for changing some configuration.

If instead you have already run the demo, can you tell me what do you see? Maybe provide a screenshot.

We are trying to help, so please try to work with us. I know it must\'ve been frustrating to try to get the game to run for so many hours, but patience is a virtue in all areas of life. The download process is actually very straight-forward, but even if you do not see it as such we are here to help you out.

i do understand what you tell me,  but if i can not access your game in 4 hours while i can access others in less than 10 minutes i doubt if the problem is with me i\'am sorry for this but to avoid further frustration  i think it is advicable to design an easier process of how to download the different programs needed to play your game i got as far as to fill out a password and confirm it.but no where to find a place to play your game

I think we all lost the thread ;) don\'t worry!!!

Now, Are you using windows? If yes, just download Planeshift from here: http://planetmirror.com/pub/planeshift/PlaneShift_CBV0.3.010.exe

That is the \"installer\" for Planeshift!

clicked on the link and it says i am downloading but nothing shows me it does ... it says click \"here\' when nothing happens, what i did.. and we are back to the 228mb download with a estamaterd time of 16 hours and 10 min running out to 21 hours + when speed is dropping
this for sure can not be the correct way to install your game
regards hollowjohn
p.s. yes i use windows
