posting a new message
« on: July 04, 2005, 04:00:17 am »
to post a new message it seem not very user friendly fom my point of view
can you use prompting, that if you log into forums, you get a prompt there to post a message, and if you need a special area you want the message to be posted to make a selection after that choice (remember i have less than 2% of your computor skills)

Having less computer skills than most people online doesn\'t mean you cannot adjust with time and learn the ways. In my opinion what you are suggesting is a lot more complicated and completely unnecessary. To make a new thread, first decide on what section of the forums it would belong in. Go to that forum and click on the New Thread button. To reply to an existing thread, open it and hit the Reply button ;)

We aren\'t born with knowledge of computers or internet message boards, but we learn and feel comfortable with the ropes in due time. This layout and posting system is the most common and by far the easiest of all online boards - it just takes some getting used to if you are completely new to such. No big deal though, there are those who will be glad to help you out.

i guess you aremight be right.
my main problem trying to play this game not to learn your way of thinking ,
i just wonder if you would like to get thens of thousand of users like me or am i just the enoying 1 that is difficult?
i have played an othe roleplay game  over 2 years and not have had any of the problems i encounter here to even try to play the game
sorry for beeing so much of trouble,
i htink it might be better if i find an other more user friendly side
at my age of 55 i dont think i will change much
sorry about this mate
have fun and hope your game will do well
but if player cant even get access without getting computor skills i think you are missing the point of playing a roleplay game

It may be a bit confusing, but like I said there are people here who are willing to help you out :) The vast majority of people who come here and become part of the community have little problems figuring out how things work - but then again they aren\'t usually the average gamer, since a lot of the issues here are testing, bug reporting, and a decent familiarity with code. Please don\'t think that what I am saying is \"my way of thinking\" - that is a misunderstanding. This is how many forums work, and how all work-in-progress games work. Again, it takes adjusting to. If you think it is too much trouble for you, then perhaps it might be a good idea to look for something that you consider more user-friendly, as you stated. Considering that Planeshift is a work-in-progress, things are not perfect here - but they are on the road to improvement.

g\'day again
as you stated you are in progress of developing and adjusting (to make it more user friendy i guess)
but maybe you would prefer computor specialist  to do this..
i have no idea what your future ideas are... but if they are trying to make people play this game and use it
it might help if it is made easy for all to use,
like i said i am not raised in the computor age as you can see in my profile,
if you wish to make things easier for ppl like me to play your game  i am happy to give you my point of view with what i  see as a problem or if i  wonder if there can be an easier way of dealing with the problems i see
how ever i have no idea about what it takes to change those things....(that is your problem :-) sofar i can not even get to access your gam to play it.
but i guess if i go back to college with my 55 years of age it might be needing a few years to understand your way of thinking,
in the mean while you seem not to be too happy with what i think would improve it for ppl like me,
i do appolegise for the inconvinience i caused you and wish you all the best with your game and its development, one day i hope i will be able to play it and see for myself how it is,in the meanwhile i htink it might be better to find a more user friendly system so ppl like me can play a good roleplaying game
again.. no hard feelings and good luck with your venture

I\'m not on the development team, so it\'s not really my game or my decisions ;) In your other thread I\'ve asked you a few questions to try to help you access the game - if you would prefer not to answer them and leave, that is your choice. However, I was trying to help you determine the problem and then see if a solution is available. The community doesn\'t like to lose members who show roleplaying potential, so if you would like to stick around and see if the people here can help you get the game running, it would be nice.

May I ask which bittorrent client you have installed? There are many free ones that do not ask for donations to use the systems. Azureus is a good choice. So does this mean you have a bittorent client installed, but not the game?

Here, on the other hand, you can find a link to the .exe client without the need to run bittorrent - I would presume that this is the easier choice. Simply choose the very first link, PlaneShift_CBV0.3.010.exe, if you are running Windows. This will begin the download of the actual game client. Once the download has finished, run the application to begin installation of the actual game client.

I hope this is helpful :)

The game client is very large, and the download will take approximately the same amount of time no matter what method you use. This depends on your internet connection. Faster connections such as DSL/Cable will take less time than regular modems. The current game size is smaller than the majority of other games on the market, but if this is keeping you from playing, then I\'m afraid it is something we cannot help with...

but i have joned a game a few days ago and i was playing in arpound 10 or so,
hench i think you have an other problem if i have to take 16 hours to download your system
theree must be better ways , how about java for instance(no idea if you can use that with your game)

My suggestion is, if you don\'t have limited hours, that is, leave the download on overnight :)

Java is one thing, but only if you want to limit the graphics to say for example, those of runescape.

Planeshift has excellent 3d graphics, so yes, it requires a big download and can\'t be in Java.

The problem with this is, the forums aren\'t only read by devs, they\'re actually read and responded to by players. Posting like that would be fine, if you didn\'t want to read anybody elses threads.
Not everybody comes here to post, either, some just read and reply.

Well, I\'ve used dialup before and I didn\'t have a limit to sessions...

Perhaps you should look into a better isp...
