running the updater
« on: July 16, 2005, 03:34:15 pm »
I just downloaded planeshift from one of the mirror things listed on the site (actually, \"I\" spent all night doing it).  It seemed to download fine, everything looked good, but when I tried to run the updater it told me that it ran out of mirrors.  I tried the other updater, the recover one, and got this:

Warning, can\'t find paths for win or mac or linux updater application! (Server only)
Critical files <> not found (server only)
NOTIFY: psUpdaterEngine initialized.
Downloading registry...

then it just disappeared.  Is that normal?

Then, trying to figure out what was going on, I tried to run the game, and it froze each time the screen came up.  I never got the chance to put in a username or anything like that before it just stopped.

What\'s going on with it?  I\"m running it on a fairly new Windows XP with a 56k modem...

Try running the updater from the command prompt adding --auto at the end...I think it should be something like this... \"C:/games/PlaneShift/updater.exe\" --auto

This will force updater to run in text mode...this might or might not fix your problem...But try this...

You can try, but you shall fail! Seek us not, we shall find you.

If you ran out of mirrors, it sounds like the updater can\'t connect to the net. You should make sure your firewall isn\'t blocking it.

Thanks, I\'ll see if either of those ideas works :)
